Sora asks if Vamdemon has already found the eighth child, and Koshiro says that with the time difference between the worlds, only about a minute was between their and Vamdemon’s arrival in Japan, so he couldn’t have. Yamato wonders how they will get to Hikarigaoka. Taichi says he’s going to the campgrounds to look around, and everyone else is curious too, and follows. Taichi asks what to do if someone sees the Digimon, and just then, their teacher Fujiyama runs up. He asks why they’re not clearing out their things, and Koromon asks why they would be. Taichi quickly covers Koromon’s mouth, but Fujiyama doesn’t seem to notice. He tells them that because of the snow everyone is heading home. He then asks what they’re holding, and Taichi says they’re stuffed animals. Jo hastily says that they found them in a remote region of the mountains that no one ever goes through. Their teacher is confused, but tells them to gather their bags quickly and come to the parking lot.
In Hikarigaoka, Vamdemon is unable to go out in the sun, and tells Tailmon and Pico Devimon that he will wait in the dark until sunset. He gives Tailmon a Tag and Crest, which is unfamiliar, and tells her to handle things.
As the children prepare to go to the buses, they warn their Digimon not to talk in front of other people. The Digimon peek out from behind the bushes and are shocked by the amount of human children, and their partners laugh and say that there are much more people in the world. Mimi runs over to several girls and hugs them delightedly, saying she missed them so much. The girls are confused because they saw Mimi earlier that day, and the other children sigh. Taichi has a plan to get to Hikarigaoka, and runs up to Fujiyama and a man who is dressed as the bus driver. Taichi asks if they can drop him and the others off at Hikarigaoka, and Fujiyama says that he has a responsibility to them, so he can't. Everyone else comes up and asks if they can, and the bus driver says the road they’re taking goes close to Hikarigaoka. Yamato, seeing that Fujiyama still doesn’t want them to go, mournfully says that he and Takeru want to see the last place they were together as a family. Takeru pretends to cry and hugs Yamato, and Jo says he will be responsible for getting everyone home. After this, Fujiyama agrees to let them go if they call their parents first. Yamato and Takeru stop hugging and crying and laugh, Yamato saying that it didn’t look like he was going to let them go. Jo realizes it was an act, and says he was so desperate to get their teachers approval because he thought it was true.
Tailmon is walking around town, looking at children. She notes that the Crest she has is not reacting at all, and wonders how many children there are. Later, she tells Vamdemon she was not able to find the eighth child, and he or she does not seem to be in the vicinity of Hikarigaoka. Vamdemon reveals several more Crests, and says he has copied the eighth child’s Tag and Crest. He tells Tailmon hers is also fake, and he has the real one. He says the copies will still react to the child’s presence.
The children get dropped off, and the Digimon are amazed by all the buildings. Taichi says he used to go to school here, and through some talking, everyone realizes that all of the Chosen Children had lived in Hikarigaoka for at least a little while. Vamdemon’s Digimon are searching the city, and Mammon is rampaging. Some people seem to think he is from a movie as he smashes through the streets. Tailmon regrets bringing him because of the mess, but continues to look for the eighth child.
The children walk around, and point out familiar places. Koshiro doesn’t remember much, and says he only lived there for a few months. He says he doesn’t know why, and Jo says he knows. Everyone asks how, because he didn’t know Koshiro then. Jo says that there was a terrorist bombing, and a lot of people left. He says they still don’t know who did it. This seems vaguely familiar to everyone, and they realize that’s why most of them left. Suddenly, a couple police cars drive past, and they follow, thinking it could be Vamdemon. They find Mammon, and Piyomon evolves to face him. As the two fight, various things are destroyed, including some telephone booths and a trolley car. The children recognize those from the Digital World, but Birdramon getting hit distracts them.
Takeru suddenly says that there were two monsters, and Yamato remembers when their mother scolded Takeru for insisting he saw them. He says it happened at the same time as the terrorist bombing. As Birdramon and Mammon fight, the children remember the night of the bombing. They realize it was actually two Digimon fighting. Birdramon evolves to Garudamon, then covers Taichi and Sora, blocking Mammon’s attack. Taichi remembers that the monster who protected him before was Greymon, and everyone else agrees. Taichi says a Koromon came to his house that day, evolved to Greymon, and fought. Garudamon finishes Mammon with her Shadow Wing, and degenerates to Pyocomon. Taichi realizes that that was why Hikari knew Koromon. Jo points out that if the police catch them, they’ll interrogate them for a while, so the children quickly leave.
In the park, Koshiro says that one factor in them being chosen to go to the Digital World was their meeting Digimon four years ago. They realize that that eighth child must have been there too. They worry that Vamdemon has already found the child, but Mochimon points out that Mammon wouldn’t have been there if he had. The children resolve to find the eighth child before Vamdemon.
