This is the 53rd article to have been featured on the Main Page.

Possessing three legs, it is a bizarre Bewitching Bird Digimon. Although its jet-black body presents an evil image to those who see it, it is told that it is the Digimon who guides the chosen to the "Golden Land" in the eastern Digital World. The eastern Digital World is a region where there are still many mysteries, and it is said that the "Golden Land" is protected by multiple sacred barriers. Although it is said that with Yatagaramon's guidance the barriers will be released, traditionally, only those who surmount the "Threefold Trials" submitted by Yatagaramon will finally arrive at the "Golden Land", and it is told that those who were not able to endure the trials are dispatched to the Dark Area. Its Special Move is concentrating the energy produced from the Dokkosho on both of its wings in its forelegs, then firing it (Mikafutsu-no-kami). Digimon who have suffered this technique have their digital cells disassembled to a state of "0"s and "1"s. Also, it is able to transform the surrounding 3 km into a dark night by means of its "Haguro", a black light emitted from its jet-black feathers.

Digimon Survive[edit]

Yatagaramon is the Partner Kemonogami of Hinata Minoru. At any point from Part 6 onwards, while practising heroic phrases, Minoru is attacked by a Guardromon. Momotsuka Takuma and Falcomon come to his aid, and when Falcomon asks Minoru to stand back, he refuses as doing so would be unheroic. The Guardromon easily beats Falcomon, for which Minoru blamed himself for not being a hero. Falcomon disputes this, pointing out that he had already started growing, and that his pure feelings would give him strength. Falcomon affirms to Minoru that he believes that Minoru could make him stronger, as Takuma had with Agumon, and he evolves into Yatagaramon.

Yatagaramon is also a playable Kemonogami which can be obtained as both a Partner and a Free Kemonogami. It's a Mobility-type, Moral (Vaccine)-attribute, Perfect-level Kemonogami. Its unnamed Attack is a claw swipe (130 power, 0 SP, deals Wind damage to target) and its special attack is Mikafutsu-no-kami (200 power, 45 SP, deals Light damage to target with a moderate chance of lowering their PHYS DEF and SP DEF one rank). Its Passive Skill is Continuous Movement (Chance of moving once more after moving if it hasn't attacked). Yatagaramon's evolutions differ depending on whether it is the Partner Yatagaramon or a Free Yatagaramon:

  • Partner Yatagaramon evolves from Diatrymon and can evolve into Valdurmon or Zhuqiaomon. All of these are unlocked by clearing specific events.
  • Free Yatagaramon evolves from Diatrymon and Birdramon and can evolve into Hououmon and Valdurmon by using Ultimate Enlightenment Slabs.

References Notes
  1. Mikafutsu-no-kami, alternatively named Futsu-no-mitama (布都御魂) is the divine manifestation of a sacred sword wielded by Emperor Jinmu (神武天皇, Jinmu Tennou). According to legend, the Yatagarasu acted as a guide for Emperor Jinmu.
  2. Haguro is a reference to Mt. Haguro, one of the Three Mountains of Dewa (出羽三山, Dewa Sanzan) founded by Prince Hachiko, who fled to the Dewa Province following the death of his father, Emperor Sushun. According to legend, he saw the Yatagarasu in a vision which led him to Mt. Haguro.
