Digimon Liberator (Liberator Video Game)
Digimon Liberator (デジモンリベレイター Dejimon Ribereitā) is a fictional, fully immersive virtual reality game featured in the Digimon Liberator comic and novel. Developed by I.D.E.A., it allows players to take part in Digimon Card Game battles and explore LACUNA, a virtual world containing quests, non-player characters and a main scenario. The game was officially launched following a year-long closed beta test.
Access[edit]
Players access Digimon Liberator through a T.A.L.E. metaverse pod. A D-Storage linked to the player's account is required to enter the game. The device also functions as a physical deck case: cards placed inside it can be scanned and registered as items for use in the game.
Upon first accessing Digimon Liberator with a D-Storage, the player receives a personal Tamer Card. Its abilities can develop as the player battles and obtains items, and it can be included in their deck.
Gameplay[edit]
Card Battles[edit]
The Digimon Card Game is the central activity of Digimon Liberator. Players can battle one another or challenge NPCs of varying difficulty. Battles against NPCs grant experience points, which raise the player's level and unlock additional options, quests and areas.
Some NPCs initiate Situational Battles, which alter the usual conditions of a card battle. These may change the number of starting Security cards or cards allowed in a player's hand, place a Digimon on the field at the start of the battle, or give that Digimon an ability it would not ordinarily possess.
Exploration and Quests[edit]
Digimon Liberator takes place in LACUNA, a virtual world divided into seven areas. Players can travel between areas, meet other players and NPCs, obtain cards and items, and undertake quests. The central district of Jewel contains shops, a Free Battle Area and a portal connecting it to the other areas. Emerald Coast serves as an introductory area with beginner battles and quizzes.
The game also has a Main Scenario in which players investigate the history of LACUNA through encounters and battles with NPCs. Its opening presents the player as an explorer arriving in Emerald Coast, where the robot Makina entrusts them with Digimon Cards.
NPCs and Administration[edit]
LACUNA contains tutorial, battle, shopping, transport and other NPCs. Game Masters (GM) employed by I.D.E.A. oversee the game and respond to problems reported by players. The Debug Team investigates bugs and incidents involving rogue NPCs.

Kazama Shoto enters Digimon Liberator at the invitation of Kinosaki Arisa. His encounters with Digimon and malfunctioning NPCs draw him into events surrounding LACUNA.

The novel follows members of the Debugging Team as they investigate problems within the game, including the presence of wild Digimon that were not intended to appear as cards.
