Sam the Clown is an antagonistic Battle Type NPC in Digimon Liberator.
Profile[edit]
Sam the Clown was originally a normal NPC which drew complaints due to talking too much. Later on, it was hacked by Unchain using Wormmon and made berserk, and in that form was responsible for the raid on the world of 49 Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode (Black) led by an Imperialdramon: Fighter Mode (Black).
After being hacked, he didn't show himself and instead used his Imperialdramon copies to fight. Only after all of them were deleted did he show his true body, with Wormmon perched on his shoulder, eyes glowing red. In this state, his speech patterns heavily changed, and he only repeated the same phrase over and over without end: "see you later". He also gained the ability to Alter Ride his own cards and could put pressure on his opponents through gusts of wind and lightning bolts.
Deck[edit]
Sam the Clown uses a Black Emperor Dragon deck[3] that includes the following cards:
- Paildramon (EX3-010)[3] (Episode 10 (Part 1))
- Dinobeemon (BT16-077)[3] (Episode 10 (Part 1))
- Paildramon (BT20-016) (Episode 11 (Part 1))
- Dinobeemon (EX3-061) (Episode 11 (Part 1))
- Dinobeemon (BT20-074) (Episode 11 (Part 1)) [N 2]

Appearances[edit]
Other Media[edit]
Prior to being hacked, Yuuki and Impmon tried to face Sam the Clown. As Yuuki was the 3000th person to talk to him, Sam wanted to celebrate and talked to her about rumours connected to the number 3, as it was the 3rd day he was standing there. Yuuki and Impmon agreed they couldn't listen to him for 20 minutes and left[4].
The producer team received several complaints about Sam the Clown's overly-talkative behavior. However, they could find no bugs within his software, which was working perfectly. Cool Boy then had a few words with Sam in person, encouraging him to be a bit more succinct[5].
Manga[edit]
Digimon Liberator[edit]
In "RAID ON THE WORLD (Part 1)" Sam the Clown was possessed by Unchain through a Wormmon they owned to launch a catastrophic attack he unleashed to gauge the Debug Team's capabilities. The attack consisted of Sam the Clown, who takes the form of an Imperialdramon: Fighter Mode (Black) and 49 Imperialdramon: Dragon Mode (Black) clones. The entire Debug Team bar Kazama Shoto was present to fight them off while all normal players are instructed to log off, so Unchain and Cool Boy claimed that they will team up to find him. In actuality, only Unchain went to find Shoto while Cool Boy was thrown into Cross Connectia to find Dalphomon.
During the attack, Zenith ends up getting his character data erased by Imperialdramon: Fighter Mode (Black) while protecting Owen Dreadnought, which brought him to a situation that Unchain exploited for later use. Violet Inboots then ran into it and challenges it to a battle, having been deduced that it is Sam the Clown himself. She almost manages to defeat him with her Ghostmon deck, but Sam the Clown activated Alter Ride to change his Imperialdramon cards into new ones that completely locked down Violet's deck. Violet lost the duel and came dangerously close to getting her character data erased as well until Kazama Shoto arrived in time to duel Sam the Clown in her place. He manages to break all of Shoto's security cards, but Shoto's own Alter Ride activates and a BT20-101 Zephagamon ACE card manifested out of thin air from his hand, allowing him to defeat the NPC.
