Summary[edit]
Spoiler Warning | |
---|---|
The ground around Infinity Mountain is shaking, and the trees are thrashing in the wind. Several black gears are flying away from it. The children are all walking, and Mimi, Takeru and their partners are shivering and saying that it’s cold. On the other hand, Gabumon and Gomamon are delighted by the change in the weather, walking energetically. Taichi smiles brightly and says the cold isn’t all bad. Mimi and Takeru look at him in shock, arms wrapped around themselves to conserve warmth. Winking, Taichi says that if it snows, then they can have a snowball fight. The kids are delighted by the thought. The Digimon are confused, and Tentomon asks if a snowball fight is food. Koshiro, smiling, replies that it’s not. Tentomon is disappointed to learn what a snowball fight actually entails.
Yamato grins competitively at Taichi, saying that they can finally have a match. Taichi confidently replies that there’s no way he’ll lose. Takeru says he wants to build an igloo, and Tentomon says that an igloo must be food. Koshiro again tells him that it’s not. Jo, standing slightly off from everyone else, sighs and comments on how lighthearted everyone is. Sora walks over, asking why he’s alone looking so serious. Jo responds that he should be serious, and if the temperature drops any more that it’ll be hard to keep camping out, and food will be harder to find too. He looks at everyone else, who are laughing cheerfully. Jo then continues to say he’s the one who needs to protect everyone, because he’s the oldest. The group keep walking, and before long emerge from the trees to find a large field covered in snow. Everyone looks stunned, and Jo looks appalled by the snow. Mimi and Takeru delightedly run into the field, playing with their partners in the snow. Sora asks what they should do. Taichi says they should walk while they decide, and Yamato is surprised that Taichi thinks they should walk in the snow. Jo quickly agrees, saying there’s no way they could go farther. Taichi says that there’s a mountain behind them and a snow field ahead, so none of the options are great, but they need to keep moving. Agumon interrupts the discussion, saying that he smells something weird. The Digimon agree, and Koshiro spots a column of steam coming up from behind some trees. Jo says that it must be a hot spring. Everyone runs toward the steam, excited. When they get there, they find that the water is boiling, and they are disappointed to not be able to take a bath. Yamato notes that at least the cold is gone. Jo tells everyone to stop being so easygoing, and that they need to find food, because there’s none where they are. Takeru says there is food, and Jo asks what he’s talking about, saying this place is full of rocks. Takeru points at a refrigerator sitting across the area. Everyone excitedly gathers around the fridge, wondering what’s inside. Taichi opens it, finding that it’s full of eggs. He happily says that they’ve found dinner, but Jo says they don't know if the eggs are safe to eat. Taichi says it’s alright, and, smiling mischievously, that he’ll test them for poison. Jo is irritated by his levity, and says that even if they are safe to eat, it would be stealing. Everyone says that they’re sure whoever owns the eggs would understand that they really need food, and Jo frowns uncomfortably. The preparations for dinner commence, with Sora frying eggs, Takeru lowering a basket into the boiling spring water to cook some, Taichi and Koshiro gathering firewood, and Jo making chopsticks. As he’s whittling with a small pocket knife, he reflects on everyone’s cheerfulness, saying that he can’t be that way because he has too much responsibility. Soon dinner is ready, and everyone happily eats their eggs. Yamato says that the eggs would be perfect with white rice, and everyone agrees. Gomamon asks Jo why he’s not eating, and Jo rather gloomily replies that they wouldn't have to go through all this trouble if they were at home. This immediately kills the cheerful mood, and everyone looks at Jo. Mimi sadly says she wants to go home. Takeru wonders what everyone is doing, and Koshiro notes that it’s been four days since they came to where they are. Sora tries to cheer everyone up by brightly asking what they like to put on their eggs. Jo says that of course he uses salt and pepper. Taichi says that he uses soy sauce, and Yamato says mayonnaise. Sora says she likes sauce. Koshiro says he puts ponzu on his, causing everyone to look at him in amused concern. Taichi laughs nervously, and Takeru flat out says it’s gross. Mimi stares at everyone, looking revolted. She says that for eggs, you obviously eat them with sugar, and then says she loves to put natto on top too. Everyone is shocked, and start laughing as Taichi and Yamato lean away from Mimi. Jo is horrified, stunned to find out about all the weird things they put on their eggs. He buries his face in his hands, lamenting that ‘the Japanese culture is collapsing’ before his eyes. Gomamon asks what he’s talking about. Taichi, amused, asks who worries over stuff like that, then jokes that Mimi’s natto really might be something to worry about. Jo insists that all anyone needs for eggs is salt and pepper. Gomamon sighs, commenting on how stubborn Jo is. Jo takes offense, demanding to know when he’s stubborn. Gomamon points out this argument as proof, saying Jo gets mad right away. Piyomon sighs, saying that it’s started. Jo and Gomamon’s argument escalates, and Yamato quickly steps over, telling Jo to calm down. Jo tells Yamato to shut up, and yells that he is calm. Yamato worriedly says that Jo is acting odd today, and then says that maybe he’s just tired. Jo insists that he is not tired, and that everyone else are the ones acting weird. Later, after the sun has gone down, Jo is sitting by the edge of a spring pool. He throws rocks in, talking out loud to convince himself he’s acting normal. He hears a small commotion by the fire, and walks back to find Taichi and Yamato arguing. Yamato tells Taichi to think more about his actions, as Jo asks the others what they’re fighting about. The Digimon shrug and shake their heads in response. Koshiro says that they’re arguing about whether the group should go to Infinity Mountain. Sora explains that Taichi says it will provide an excellent view of the area, and Yamato is worried that it will be too dangerous. Jo agrees with both of their points, especially as Piyomon adds that there would be lots of dangerous Digimon on the mountain. Taichi accuses Yamato of running away, and Yamato insists that Taichi is being too reckless. Jo step in then, and says they need to discuss without fighting. Yamato asks Jo which one of them is right, and Jo looks back and forth, arguing first for one side and then the other, ultimately ending up in the middle, causing Taichi and Yamato both to look exasperated. They proceed to argue, and Jo tells them to calm down and let him think, but just becomes the third person in the argument. Sora tells everyone to stop, and that it’s late and time for bed. Yamato and Taichi’s Digimon agree that they can continue in the morning. Sora adds that the younger kids are looking worried, too, and then physically shepherds Yamato and Taichi away. As everyone else is sleeping, Jo lays down, but stares at the ceiling of their cave. He thinks about the argument earlier, and how he just made it worse. He says that he needs to do better, and then decides that he is going to climb Infinity Mountain and scout ahead for the good of the group. He leaves a note in the dirt and then walks away. Gomamon follows him, asking if he’s going to climb the mountain alone. Jo says he is, and tells Gomamon not to stop him. Gomamon agrees, and as Jo walks by Gomamon falls in behind him. Jo turns and says he’s going alone, so Gomamon shouldn’t follow him. Gomamon insists that there’s something else he needs to do on top of the mountain. Jo says Gomamon can do what he wants, and they start walking up the mountain. After a while, they’re panting from the climb. Gomamon says that he’ll lend Jo a hand if he needs any help. Jo asks what Gomamon has are ‘hands’. Gomamon starts to snarl, and Jo reassures him that it’s just a joke. Gomamon laughs, noting that Jo can in fact make jokes. They walk over a lot of difficult terrain, and after Jo lifts Gomamon over a small ridge, he calls a break. He says that they’re probably about halfway up the mountain. Gomamon says Jo’s not so bad at climbing, and Jo says Gomamon isn’t either. The ground suddenly starts shaking, and Jo wonders fearfully if the mountain is a volcano. They see a group of black gears flying above them expelled by a large split in the mountain, which seals with a rumbling noise as they find it. Jo walked over to look at it, but the rock had sealed seamlessly. Jo begins to walk away, but Gomamon hears wingbeats, and sees Unimon approaching. He happily announces who it is, saying he is a smart, gentle Digimon, but Jo is cautious, and pulls Gomamon into a cave to hide until they see more; he says the Digimon’s information is never right. Gomamon, slightly embarrassed, agrees. Unimon lands at the waterfall nearby and starts drinking. Gomamon says that it’s fine, and comes out to say hi. Suddenly, Unimon’s ears lift, and Gomamon listens too. A black gear drops from the sky and embeds itself half into Unimon’s back. He screams, rearing, and then turns towards Jo and Gomamon. They back into the wall, terrified. The sun starts to rise, and Sora wakes up. She notices that Jo is gone, and walks out of the cave. She sees Jo’s note written in the dirt. She realizes that he’s gone to climb the mountain on his own, and runs to wake everyone up. Unimon is chasing Jo and Gomamon along the ledge, and fires at them with his Holy Shot attack. It barely misses, and demolishes the way to go back. Gomamon can’t do anything, and Unimon flies over to the path in front of them, preparing to fire Holy Shot again. Just as he’s about to finish Gomamon and Jo, Birdramon smashes into the mountain, pinning Unimon against it. Taichi, Sora, and Agumon climb off, running over. Behind them, Unimon uses Holy Shot, and strikes Birdramon, sending her into a downward spiral. Sora gasps, then drops off the steep cliff, keeping her balance as she slides down the slant. Agumon also evolves, but Unimon is fast, and smashes him into the already broken stone. Greymon uses Mega Flame, but Unimon dodges. Unimon counters immediately with his attack, sending rocks raining down on Taichi and Greymon. Greymon shelters Taichi under him, and Unimon swoops off towards Birdramon and Sora. Birdramon uses Meteor Wing, but again Unimon proves his strength, lowering his head and ramming into Birdramon, knocking her to the ground again. She lands on the edge of a lower path, breaking the stone near herself and Sora. sending them both falling. Jo looks at the black gear on Unimon’s back, and impulsively jumps off the cliff, landing on Unimon. He tries to pull the gear out, making Unimon arch his back and neigh. Gomamon yells that it’s impossible, and Jo says he needs to protect everyone. Unimon bucks and throws Jo off, and he falls towards the stone below. Gomamon screams his name, and then evolves into Ikkakumon. He catches Jo, then uses Harpoon Vulcan to attack Unimon. Unimon moves away too quickly, but Ikkakumon’s missiles double back and detonate on their target. Unimon runs away as the black gear shatters on the ground. Taichi and Sora are alright, and all the Digimon return to their child forms. Taichi congratulates Jo, saying he has a new opinion of him now. Sora says that his courage is what made Gomamon evolve. Gomamon quickly contradicts this, saying that it was probably his own hard work, not Jo’s courage that made him evolve. Probably. Jo steps over to him and thanks him sincerely, shaking his hand (paw, foot, whatever) and saying that he saved them all. Gomamon is flattered, and his cheeks flush slightly. Piyomon hops up, giggling and saying that Gomamon is blushing. He insists that he is not. Now that they’re mostly up the mountain, Taichi, Sora, and Jo continue to the peak. When they get to the top, however, they’re frightened to discover that the place they are on is an island surrounded by an immense sea. |

English[edit]
- A shot of Jou using his knife is cut from the Saban dub.
- The scene where all of the children talk about what they like to put on their eggs is heavily rewritten in the Saban dub:
- Yamato's choice of mayonnaise is changed to hot salsa.
- Koushiro's choice of ponzu is changed to mustard and jelly beans.
- Mimi's choice of sugar and natto is changed to maple syrup with a cherry on top.
- Jou's complaint about the collapse of Japanese society is changed in the Saban dub to be about his distaste of egg toppings.
- The slow, acoustic version of Seven is replaced in the dub by generic music.
- The Saban dub claims that Gomamon has met Unimon before. No such thing is implied in the original.
- Unimon is given dialogue while he is possessed in the Saban dub.
- Jou's message in the dirt is translated in the Saban dub.
