| The sun has gone down, and Taichi, Yamato, Jo, and Mimi are discussing the best way to rescue Sora. Koshiro is in the program cave, typing on his computer and looking at a map. Takeru is sitting with the Digimon. Jo says that because they don’t know where Nanomon is, they can’t attack first, so they just have to wait. Yamato says that Nanomon’s goal is to defeat Etemon, so maybe if they can do that first, he won’t need Sora anymore. Mimi points out that Etemon beat them easily last time.
Taichi looks at the fire and guiltily says that he should have been able to go through the wall and save Sora. Jo tells him to stop putting all the blame on himself, and that no one else was able to help either. Koshiro then comes out of the cave, telling everyone he’s figured it out. He brings them inside and shows them a map of the pyramid, and says that Nanomon only pretended to run away. A new section appears on the map, and Koshiro says that he has found a secret room built into the pyramid. Taichi says that it will be dangerous, but he wants to do anything he can to help Sora. Everyone else says they know, and feel the same way because Sora is a close friend to everyone.
Sora wakes up shackled to a steel table, and sees Piyomon unresponsive, attached to the wall. She is alarmed, and tries to pull free. Nanomon says that Piyomon is only unconscious, and he still needs her to defeat Etemon for him. Sora says that Piyomon can’t evolve without her, and Nanomon says he’s not planning on using Sora. The table scans Sora, and on a matching table across the room, pixels start to gather. He says that he’s copying her, and will use the copy to acquire the power of the Crest. He holds it up, along with her Tag, then slides them together. Nanomon says that when he fought Etemon, most of his memories were permanently lost, and the only thing he can do now is exact revenge.
Outside Etemon’s pyramid, Koshiro has mapped the enemy troops locations. He says that it will be impossible to sneak in unnoticed, and Yamato says that’s why he and Jo will be the distraction so that Taichi and Koshiro can sneak in. Koshiro will direct Taichi where to go within the pyramid. Koshiro seems worried, and eventually tells Taichi that he will need to cross an electric wall to get to the room. Taichi’s mind flashes to when he froze in front of the last one, and then he says that he’ll rescue Sora this time.
Everyone gets into position, and Ikkakumon starts the attack with Harpoon Vulcan. A large group of Monochromon and Tyranomon start charging at them. Jo gives the order to retreat, and he and Ikkakumon lead them off. Yamato and Garurumon do the same, and inside, Etemon wonders what they’re plotting. He asks a Gazimon if they’ve found Nanomon yet, and he says that Nanomon broke some things within the Network, so the searching function was destabilized. Etemon says in that case, he’s going to kill the children first, and drives off after Yamato and Jo. Taichi and Koshiro leave Mimi and Takeru under a sandy colored tarp, and run through the passages in the pyramid. They come across a blockage, and have to leave the hidden passage briefly. In the control room, a Gazimon sees something on a monitor, and rewinds to get a better look. Hiding in the sand, Mimi says she’s worried about Jo and Yamato, and she and Togemon leave Takeru there to hide alone.
Nanomon is examining his computer system, and tells Sora that her friends are very perceptive, and have sent a few children into the pyramid in the confusion above. In the control room, the Gazimon finds Taichi and Koshiro on the film, and raises the alarm. Etemon, far in the desert, is attacking Ikkakumon and Jo. Garurumon and Togemon show up to help, but are both defeated as well. He is about to finish everyone when he receives a message that there are Chosen Children inside the pyramid. He wonders why they’ve gone back there, and correctly deduces that Nanomon is still in the pyramid. While he discusses, Takeru and Tokomon hide everyone else under the sand-colored tarp so Etemon cannot find them. They are glad they’re safe, but worry a little about Taichi and Koshiro.
Inside the pyramid, Gazimon are running everywhere, and Taichi and Koshiro can’t proceed further. As they’re debating what to do, Etemon breaks into their hidden passage. Koshiro says that he and Tentomon will hold him back, and Taichi runs ahead to get Sora. When he and Agumon reach the electric wall, Agumon offers to go through first when Taichi hesitates. Taichi stops him, and says that there’s something that he lost yesterday on the other side of the wall. Agumon asks if he means Sora, and Taichi says that’s not all. He steps over to the wall, and Agumon tells him to summon his courage. Taichi braces himself and pushes his hand through the wall. As he does, his Crest starts glowing brightly.
Behind them, Etemon breaks through the wall, having beaten Kabuterimon. Agumon evolves into Greymon and tells Taichi to go. Inside the room, Taichi briefly runs towards the copy of Sora before Piyomon cries out that it’s not real. He turns to see Sora on the table still. Nanomon says that he will give the Digivice and Crest to the copy of Sora, and it will become the real one. Taichi runs over and snatches the Digivice and Crest, then tries to give it to Sora. Nanomon opens up the floor under Sora, sending her falling into a black mass that he identifies as the dark energy of Etemon’s network. Taichi lunges forward and catches her hand, stopping her fall temporarily. Nanomon comes up, then tries to pull their hands apart, saying he has no use for the original. He threatens to kill Sora if Taichi doesn’t give him back the Crest and Digivice. Taichi says he came here to save Sora, then drops the Crest and Digivice into her hand. Piyomon evolves, picks up Taichi and Sora, and smashes down the wall. Etemon is pinned under the electrified wreckage, and everyone runs out of the pyramid.
Etemon frees himself, then goes to kill Nanomon. Nanomon wipes out the rest of the floor, and Etemon grabs the computer console to stop himself from falling, and Nanomon clings to his foot. Nanomon drops a virus-laced Plug Bomb attack into the pit, and says that it will change the energy into a concentrated ball. It starts to pull everything towards itself, and Etemon falls in. Behind the escaping children, the pyramid folds in on itself. The dark energy rises out, and Etemon is partially inside, but regains some control. He attacks the group with Dark Spirits, and where the energy lands, the space starts to warp. Jo says that they can’t win, and Taichi says there is one way. His Crest shines again, and along with Greymon, he starts to run across the warping sand, heading for Etemon.
Taichi’s fierce courage is channeled into energy, and Greymon is able to super evolve into Metal Greymon. Etemon attacks with Dark Spirits, and Metal Greymon blocks the attack easily, and counters with Giga Destroyer. Etemon folds in on himself, and Taichi and Metal Greymon are pulled into the rip in space as well, leaving nothing but a blue sky behind. The other children are shocked, and call out, but Taichi is no longer there. Instead, he is standing in a park, Koromon by his side. He looks around and sees people walking, and the city buildings of Japan.
