Summary[edit]
Spoiler Warning | |
---|---|
The Children have fallen from the broken cliff and now plummeting through the air. The winged Digimon, Piyomon, Tentomon, and Patamon attempt to catch their new partners, but they aren’t strong enough to lift the humans, and continue plummeting. Palmon grabs for the cliff with her Poison Ivy attack, but a section of stone crumbles under her vines, and she and Mimi drop towards the river again. Gomamon and Jo hit the water, and Gomamon, knowing that the rushing river could be dangerous, uses Marching Fishes. A large net of fish bubbles up to from under him, expanding to a large size. The fish catch all of the group.
The portion of the cliff that previously broke off falls, crashing into the water with an explosive eruption. The resulting waves are massive and sweep the children high, but Gomamon’s net holds. The water tosses them up onto a bank, and they sit for a moment, breathing and recovering from the shock of their experiences. Jo, kneeling on the ground, asks why the fish did that. Gomamon happily explains that his ability is to control fish. Joe sits up, understanding, and thanks him, calling him Pukamon a second before realizing that the Digimon is different now. Gomamon reintroduces himself, and the rest of the humans take a closer look at their new Digimon’s child forms. Agumon tells Taichi that they ‘evolved’, and Taichi asks what that means. Koshiro says that in the their world, it’s when organisms change and adapt to their environment. Tentamon confirms this, and all the Digimon tell their partners their names. Taichi asks if they’re still digital monsters, and Agumon responds affirmatively before expressing his delight that he’s finally met Taichi. Agumon says that he couldn’t evolve before, and he’s sure it’s because of Taichi. Sora asks Piyomon if she is the same way, and she says yes. Tentomon says all the Digimon are that way. Palmon tells Mimi it’s all thanks to her, but Mimi responds less enthusiastically, saying she doesn’t even know what she did. Takeru, walking around and inspecting Patamon, asks if he can change back. Patamon frowns, but says maybe. Jo sighs, saying everything doesn’t make much sense even with their explanations. Yamato asks what the group should do now. Jo replies that they should go back to where they were, and then wait for adults to find them. The group then turns and looks up at the mountain they just fell off of, which is a good distance away thanks to the river’s current. Taichi, Yamato and Sora present reasons why it’s now very difficult to get back to where they were before. Jo then says they should find a road, but Yamato thinks the more important question is where they are, and adds that nowhere in the forest looks anything like the campsite they were staying at. Koshiro agrees, and guesses that the forest’s plants are more like subtropical vegetation. Tentomon agrees enthusiastically, and Koshiro, surprised, hopefully asks if Tentomon understands what he’s saying, to which the Digimon says no. Koshiro sighs, and Jo states that there must be a road to lead them back to the top of the cliff. Sora hesitantly agrees, saying that if they go back they might find clues as to why they came here. Mimi fearfully asks if there are more monsters like Kuwagamon. Palmon confirms her suspicions, and Mimi presents this as an argument for not going to the mountain again. Yamato thoughtfully says that he doesn’t want to put anyone in danger. Taichi asks Agumon if there are other humans there. Agumon is unfamiliar with the word ‘human’, but tells Taichi that there are no other humans like them in this place, only Digimon. Taichi comments on the diversity of the different Digimon. Sora remembers that the Digimon said this place was called File Island. Yamato asks if it’s really an island. Koshiro says that he’s never heard of it, and Joe notes that it’s “probably not in Japan”. Taichi turns to the group and says they should go, and there’s no point in standing around there. He then turns and confidently walks off, Agumon following him. Yamato asks where he thinks he’s going, and Taichi stops and turns, revealing that earlier, he saw the ocean. Everyone is surprised, and Taichi says they should go and see it. Yamato asks Sora if they should go, and she says yes. Jo insists that the best thing to do in this situation is to wait for the adults to come, so that’s another reason they should go- At this point, Gomamon’s voice breaks through Jo’s words, telling him to hurry up, because everyone else is now walking away. Jo yells and runs to catch up. The group is now walking next to a river, and everyone is walking in pairs with their partner, except for Gomamon and Jo, because Gomamon is swimming in the river. Sora remarks on the trees, saying she’s never seen anything like them before. Koshiro agrees, deciding that his original estimate was off, and the trees don’t look like anything he’s heard of. Joe remarks on how strange it is, and Yamato says that the Digimon should have tipped him off in that regard. Koshiro muses about the term Digital Monster, wondering if they’re somehow electronic. Tentomon says that they can be referred to as Digimon for short. Koshiro notes that the Digimon don’t seem to be very electric, and Tentomon begins to build up a small, crackling lightning ball (his Petit Thunder attack) to show how electric he is. Koshiro, alarmed, covers his head and tells Tentomon to stop. Takeru mentions that he saw Patamon flying earlier, and Patamon happily confirms this, and tries to demonstrate. However, he is evidently not used to flying, and instead of gracefully soaring beside Takeru, he quickly falls behind, awkwardly flapping and fumbling at the air with his legs. Takeru says it’s cool, but it looks like it would be faster if Patamon walked. Piyomon boasts of her superior flying ability, and jumps into the air to show Sora. Piyomon immediately drops back, and Sora says that there’s no difference between the two Digimon’s flying ability. (Note: Tentomon has been easily flying alongside Koshiro for the duration of the scene.) Mimi says that Palmon looks like a plant. Palmon proudly responds that she is very plantlike, and can even perform photosynthesis. Mimi delightedly claps her hands together, and tells Palmon to do it. Palmon asks if Mimi knows what photosynthesis is, and Mimi reveals that she doesn’t really, and asks Palmon what it is. Palmon blushes and looks away, admitting that she doesn't know either. Taichi says that because there’s nothing but Digimon there, Kuwagamon must have been a Digimon too. Agumon says that that’s correct. Koshiro muses about other large, dangerous Digimon, worrying that if one was there, more might be. Gabumon announces that he smells the ocean, and Gomamon calls out from the river that he can see it. Suddenly the children hear a phone ringing, and wonder why that sound is where they are. They follow it, running to the beach, where they find five telephone booths on the sand. Taichi gets to the ringing booth first, but as soon as he opens the door the phone stops. The group gathers and comments on how similar the phone booths are to the ones they see, and Jo says that is proof that there are people here, and that they are still in Japan. Gomamon looks at Jo in confusion, asking what ‘Japan’ is. Jo then admits that maybe they aren’t really still there. Taichi then asks if anyone has any change to make a call, and Koshiro gives him his phone card. Everyone begins to disperse throughout the booths, wanting to call their parents. Taichi calls and is told the time is 35:82:90 AM, and everyone else is given similarly bizarre information. They wonder what is wrong with the phones. A short time later, everyone is sitting on the beach, except for Jo, who is continuing to try other phone numbers, but getting no results. The rest of the children comment on Jo’s persistence. Taichi says that they should move on, as there are no useful results. Yamato wants to wait and see if someone calls in, even if they can’t call out, like before. Taichi says that that’s a waste of time, but Yamato is adamant that it could be useful. When Taichi doesn’t waver, Yamato points out that everyone is tired, so they need to rest anyway. Koshiro says that he’s hungry as well, and Taichi officially calls a break. Sora sighs in relief, and asks if anyone has food. In her search, she finds the gadget from before clipped to her belt. Everyone else looks around, and realized they each have their own. Koshiro wonders what they are, but is distracted by his stomach growling. He asks after food, and Sora reveals a small first-aid kit, Koshiro has his laptop, Taichi a pocket telescope, and Yamato says he didn’t bring food either. Takeru says he did, and opens his backpack to reveal that it is packed with snacks. Mimi is delighted, and then notices that Takeru is not from their school. He agrees, saying that it was summer so he came to visit his “Onii-chan”. He then smiles at Yamato and says, “Right, Onii-chan?” Yamato agrees, but looks startled and uncomfortable. Taichi wonders why he said Onii-chan, and Koshiro guesses that Yamato and Takeru are cousins (because while Onii-chan means older brother, it can also be used towards older male cousins, and Yamato and Takeru have different last names). Sora asks Mimi what is in her large bag and Mimi unloads it, revealing, much to everyone’s surprise, a small mess kit, a Swiss Army knife, fire fuel, a flashlight, and a compass. Everyone stares at her, and Yamato notes that she seems quite prepared for survival. Mimi happily says that since she hasn’t gone camping in a while, she borrowed her dad’s gear… secretly. Taichi says that’s not very normal to bring in this time period, but Yamato points out that it could be useful. Taichi looks at Jo, who is still making phone calls, in search of food supplies, laughing saying that there’s no way he could have brought food. Halfway through is comment, he breaks off as he sees the emergency supply bag draped over Jo’s shoulder. He points it out, and calls to Jo, saying he has the rations. Jo looks over his shoulder, only half paying attention as he asks why he has to carry it. Koshiro begins to talk, mentioning the bag, and Jo remembers he has it. He says he was trying to hand it off to Mimi, because it’s her day to carry it. He walks over, putting the bag next to her and saying she needs to keep better track of it. Mimi complains that it’s heavy, and Jo starts to tell her not to be so selfish. Taichi breaks off the argument, saying that it’s good to have food, and it’s time to eat lunch anyway. Jo is beginning to divide up the meals, and figure out how much food they have. Sora jumps in to point out that the Digimon mean they only have food for about half as much time as they thought. Gabumon says that the Digimon can find their own food, and Tentomon reassures the group that they can, and Piyomon says that that’s what they've always been doing. Jo happily says that because of that all the food will be for the humans. Meanwhile, Taichi and Agumon have, at some point in the conversation, started eating, and Joe turns and snaps that the food is for the humans. Taichi tells him to calm down and not be so stingy, and Joe says he won’t. Gomamon has been floating in the water, sunning himself. Suddenly, he notices something under the water. On the shore, Piyomon says something is coming. A geyser of water spits up out of the sand, and it moves, shredding the phone booths and scattering their pieces across the beach. The sand starts to whirl, and a grey, spinning object grows out of the ground. Tentomon says it’s Shellmon, and this must be his territory. From the grey shell, Shellmon’s soft pink body emerges, and he proceeds to shoot a jet of water (Hydro Pressure) at the cliff where Jo is calling for the others to try and climb away. The water knocks Jo off and he falls to the ground. Yamato and Sora go to help him, and the Digimon attempt to attack Shellmon. Everyone’s attacks fail, fizzing out in the air, except for Agumon’s Baby Flame, which works as intended, though it still isn’t strong enough to seriously hurt Shellmon. All the partner Digimon are knocked aside by Shellmon. Agumon quickly jumps up and continues to fight. Everyone else stays down, and the children run to their Digimon. After hearing them, the kids realize that their Digimon don’t have the energy because none of them have eaten yet, except for Agumon. Taichi is listening, and calls to tell Agumon that they’re the only ones who can fight now. Agumon nods, and Taichi runs to the side to distract Shellmon. Agumon attacks, and Taichi attacks Shellmon with a pole from the broken phone booths. Shellmon gets annoyed, and pins Agumon under one hand (foot? appendage?) and snatches Taichi up with one of the tentacles on his head. Shellmon then attacks the other kids and their Digimon with Hydro Pressure. Taichi is worried for them, and desperately asks if there’s anything they can do. Shellmon begins to squeeze him, and Taichi yells in pain. Agumon looks up and calls his name, and Taichi’s digivice starts to flash. The evolution sequence starts and Agumon evolves into Greymon. Greymon shoves Shellmon back, and Taichi is flung to roll over the sand. They both attack each other, and Greymon throws Shellmon into the air, then hits Shellmon with Mega Flame. Shellmon flies away into the ocean with a splash. Greymon glows gold, and then shrinks back down to his Agumon form. Taichi runs to him, worried, and Agumon says he’s hungry, causing Taichi to laugh in relief. After the fight, the children are on the beach, and Jo is trying to contact someone on the destroyed phone. Taichi says that there’s no reason to stay on the beach now, and Yamato agrees. Sora encourages the Digimon to eat as much as they want of the emergency food supply, the children having decided that they need the Digimon ready to fight if something happens. Koshiro says that Shellmon still might come back, and everyone agrees that they should leave the beach. Jo wants to go back to the forest on the mountain, to wait for the adults to come save them. Sora reminds him that it would be difficult to get back there, and Mimi protests that she doesn’t want to see Kuwagamon again. Koshiro says that there must have been people to build the phone booths, and they should find them. Everyone agrees. |

Quotations[edit]
Edits[edit]
English[edit]
- Gomamon's Marching Fishes attack is referred to as "Fish Net" in this episode.
- The Saban dub's running gag of Jou being allergic to various things is introduced here.
- The Animax dub will frequently use the incorrect pluralization of "Digimons".
- Another running gag introduced by Saban in this episode is Koushiro theorizing that aliens are responsible for their current situation.
- Once again, the Saban dub removes all references to Japan.
- Mimi says she wants to call her mom, but the Saban dub has her wanting to call her dad instead.
- While most of the bizarre phone dialogue is translated correctly in the Saban dub, Mimi's response to her phone is not. In the Japanese version and Animax dub, she asks if she called the wrong number, but in the Saban dub, she asks what she needs to wear.
- For some reason, the Saban dub removes Takeru mentioning that the only reason he went to camp is so he can play with his big brother, and Koushiro and Taichi realizing that this means that they're related.
- The Saban dub gives Palmon a brief line suggesting that Jou likes Mimi.
- Agumon's shout of "Taichi!!!" when he sees Taichi getting strangled by Shellmon is replaced with him shouting "Digivolve!!!" in the Saban dub.
- Greymon's Mega Flame is usually translated as "Nova Blast" in the Saban dub. In this episode, however, it is referred to as "Digi-Nova Blast".
