---|---|
On August 2, 1999, Pumpmon and Gotsumon have just arrived in Shibuya. They are incredibly excited to be in Shibuya, and plan to have a lot of fun. Yamato and Takeru are sitting on a train, with their Digimon on a luggage rack above them. Tsunomon explains to Patamon that the boys parents divorced four years ago, and Patamon notes that they live with different parents. Takeru looks at his Digivice and says it’s late; Yamato should go home at the next stop. Yamato firmly says he’ll keep going. Patamon asks if they don’t like separating, and Takeru snaps at him to be quiet. Everyone is surprised, and Patamon says fine, he won’t talk anymore. As the train stops in the station, Patamon flies out the doors and says he’s getting off. Yamato and Tsunomon run after him, but stop when Takeru doesn’t follow. He says he doesn’t care, but as the doors start to close he runs and jumps off the train.
They walk around, wondering where Patamon went. Yamato tells Takeru he was too harsh, and Takeru admits he was embarrassed that Patamon guessed his feelings accurately. Yamato says he understands, and they move on to look for Patamon. They pass a building where Pumpmon and Gotsumon are playing games. It is a form of gambling, and the security officer thinks they’re children in costumes, so he throws them out. As they run away, they knock over a teenage girl. They decide to commemorate their first night in Shibuya by hitting on her, and ask what time it is. She says they look weird, and they point out her nose piercing, saying she has something weird too. Pumpmon tugs on it, and she angrily starts to chase them. Pumpmon and Gotsumon run over to Yamato and Takeru, and Tsunomon, thinking they’re a threat, evolves into Gabumon. He says they work for Vamdemon. They don’t deny it, but say a Shibuya girl even scarier than Vamdemon is chasing them. They tell Gabumon he should probably hide too, and pull him away while Yamato misdirects the angry girl. Pumpmon and Gotsumon admit that they’re supposed to be looking for the eighth child, but Shibuya is much more fun. They say they’ve become Shibuya-type Digimon, and the humans sigh. Pumpmon and Gotsumon run over to a traffic light and cause it to go haywire, making confusion in the street. The police show up quickly, and Yamato and Takeru run away. Pumpmon and Gotsumon follow them. After they’re all tired out, they stop. They see Pumpmon and Gotsumon in the window of a store trying on clothes. They go in to stop them, but the two mischievous Digimon dress the children up and run away. Suddenly, Patamon flies past the window, and they run after him. Unfortunately, they lose track of Patamon. Gabumon says Patamon isn’t normally this stubborn, but must still be mad. Pumpmon and Gotsumon tell them to cheer up, and offer them ice cream. Gabumon asks where they got it, and they shamelessly say they stole it. The seller of the ice cream runs after them, and the whole group flees. After they stop, lighting strikes the ground in front of them. Vamdemon appears from the smoke, addressing Pumpmon and Gotsumon. He asks why they are enjoying ice cream with the Chosen Children, and why they aren’t searching for the eighth child. Vamdemon asks why they aren’t stealing the Crests from the Children, and they hastily say they were just about to do that. They chase the group through the city, and Gabumon says he can’t bring himself to fight them. Patamon lands on a street lamp, saying he flew out in the heat of the moment, but wonders what Takeru is doing now. He hears two girls saying that the best place to meet up with someone is at Hachiko’s Statue. (Hachiko's Statue is a very popular rendezvous point in Shibuya.) Patamon quickly flies off towards there, thinking to find Takeru. Pumpmon and Gotsumon corner Yamato, Takeru and Gabumon. As Pumpmon and Gotsumon close in, they both declare they quit. They say playing in Shibuya sounds much more fun than fighting, and invite the children to play with them. Vamdemon starts to appear, and Pumpmon and Gotsumon quickly usher the children into a hidden corner. They tell Vamdemon they failed to catch the children. Vamdemon calls them on the lie, and uses his Night Raid attack on them. They try to counter with Pumpmon’s Trick or Treat and Gotsumon’s Angry Rock, but Vamdemon stops them with little effort. He kills the two Digimon, then moves towards the children’s hiding place. Yamato, horrified by Vamdemon’s callousness, shouts that he didn’t need to kill them. Gabumon evolves into Garurumon and attacks. Vamdemon does not seem affected, and Yamato acknowledging the friendship they had with Pumpmon and Gotsumon allows Garurmon to super evolve into Were Garurumon. Patamon is waiting at Hachiko’s Statue when he hears screams and sees things breaking. He goes toward the noises. Were Garurumon uses his Kaiser Nail to push Vamdemon through a building but is blown back by Night Raid, and as he lays motionless, Vamdemon uses Bloody Stream on him. Takeru anxiously thinks that if he hadn't gotten angry at Patamon then none of this would have happened, and Pumpmon and Gotsumon would be still alive. Patamon gasps, and an influx of power causes him to evolve to Angemon. He flies towards the fight, and strikes Vamdemon hard. Both their attacks start to overpower Vamdemon, and he says he will fight them later, and flies off. The Digimon revert to their Child forms, and Takeru anxiously runs to Patamon. Patamon reassures his partner he’s alright this time, and the little boy tearfully apologizes for getting mad. As they’re walking back to the train, they see the places where they spent time with Pumpmon and Gotsumon. They both are sad, remembering the Digimon’s innocence, and as they walk away, two falling stars commemorate Pumpmon and Gotsumon. The narrator says this was only a prelude for battles to come, and once the eighth child acts on her destiny, the flame of battle with flare and devour everything. |

English[edit]
- In the English Dub, Vamdemon did not kill Pumpmon and Gotsumon, but banished them to his dungeon in the Digital World. This creates a plot hole in the dub as they are never mentioned again.
- The dub does not specify that Takeru lives in Sangenjaya.
- Pumpmon and Gotsumon trying to hit on a Shibuya teenager is censored in the dub so that they instead insult her clothing.
- The teenager tells Pumpmon and Gotsumon that they look like they walked off the set of Kin-chan’s Costume Grand Prix. As American audiences would not get this reference, she instead thinks that they are wearing Halloween costumes.
- The reference to the famous Hachiko statue in Shibuya is removed from the dub.
- This is the first episode of the dub to include a “To be continued” screen, which will last until the end of Digimon Frontier.
