Digimon New Century[edit]

Ranamon and Impmon become friends after nearly extinguishing a Candmon's flame. After this event, Ranamon would help Impmon escape from Takutoumon's Bǎo Tǎ a few times until they both finally fled the region where they lived after being wrongly accused of attacking a group of Gomamon, despite having saved them from a Skull Greymon.

Some time after this, Impmon and Ranamon go their separate ways, with the promise to meet again when they reach the Ultimate-level. Ranamon returns to her homeland seeking to pass Ryugumon's test and obtain the power of the Dragon Crystal to evolve. Unfortunately for her, Ryugumon has fallen into a deep sleep and the Dragon Crystal no longer recognizes any Digimon as worthy of evolving. With no other options left, Ranamon decides to join the guardians of Ryūshōgu.

Over time, Ranamon is able to evolve on her own into Calamaramon, eventually becoming one of the strongest guardians. The guardians constantly deal with invasion attempts by Metal Seadramon and his forces, who wish to steal the Dragon Crystal, while a Huankunmon, employed by Tian Ji as their messenger, arrives at Ryūshōgu bearing a message from Erlangmon to Ryugumon (which cannot be delivered due to Ryugumon's coma, which Hangyomon, one of the guardians, hides) and a message from Impmon, now as Nezhamon, wishing to meet Ranamon in three days.

Although the meeting does not happen, Huankunmon returns with new messages, informing that Erlangmon already knows about Ryugumon's coma, since nothing escapes his vision, and that Metal Seadramon is a servant of Leviamon, of the Seven Great Demon Lords. In addition to a question from Nezhamon about whether or not to forgive Takutoumon now that the two have met again, although the "old man" has not yet recognized him, which Calamaramon thinks it is better that things follow their own flow and that Takutoumon should remember for himself.

Some time after Erlangmon's warning, Calamaramon goes up to the surface in search of Tian Ji's help in protecting the Dragon Crystal, but ends up being ambushed by Metal Seadramon, in addition to the arrival of Olegmon, Barbamon's servant. Reacting to her determination to escape and not let the enemies reach the crystal, the Dragon Crystal shines inside the Ryūshōgu, allowing Calamaramon to evolve into Shagaramon. With this new power, the guardian is able to subdue both enemies and then seal access to the Ryūshōgu using the ocean currents. After this event, Shagaramon finally manages to reunite with Nezhamon once again, and joins Tian Ji.

Once in the organization, Shagaramon ends up finding out about the prophecy of the catastrophic Digimon, and that his true identity is Nezhamon, when confronting Erlangmon about the matter, the leader of Tian Ji reveals that he is able to see multiple futures, since the prophecies and visions are nothing more than data, and all he has done is direct everyone towards the best outcome, although the end of the world is inevitable, however, Shagaramon can prevent Nezhamon from becoming the trigger of the end by not helping him when the time comes for Nezhamon to ally with Lucemon and face Erlangmon, this being another future he has seen.

After some time, Nezhamon takes advantage of the absence of a leader at the base and reveals to Shagaramon about the Data Shattering Plan, convincing Shagaramon to abandon the organization alongside him, with her asking her childhood friend to under no circumstances ally with the Newborn Army.

Back on Ryūshōgu, Shagaramon encounters Xiangpengmon, who managed to cross the ocean currents thanks to Erlangmon's prior instruction, revealing that Ryugumon's comatose state was caused by his symbiotic relationship with the Dragon Crystal and the uncontrolled evolution of the Digimon, which led the crystal to drain Ryugumon's data excessively, and that this ability to drain the data of other Digimon may be the reason why the Seven Great Demon Lords desire him.

Xiangpengmon then explains that staying asleep was a way for Ryugumon to recover, and once Shagaramon unseals the sea currents, he will awaken, which proves true when the Dragon Crystal's energy begins to flow back into Ryugumon. At the same time, Huankunmon appears bringing a message from Nezhamon, who asked Shagaramon to go find Jougamon, since the time has come to gather allies, given that Erlangmon has initiated the Data Shattering Plan. The messenger also confirms that despite Lucemon's approach, Nezhamon refused to ally with the Fallen Angel. Shagaramon then sets off once more and is able to find his comrade while she fights Lilithmon (X-Antibody). Shagaramon informs him that the Newborn Army has found out about Erlangmon's plan and has used the situation to incite the conflict between Tian Ji and the Royal Knights, in addition to the internal strife between the members. Jougamon asks Shagaramon to inform Erlangmon, while she stays to face the newly emerged Four Ferocious Beasts (a battle that leads to Jougamon's death at the hands of the four evil Digimon). However, Shagaramon is caught by Dijiangmon's ability which disturbs her mind, and when she comes to, she is once again in Ryūshōgu. The guardian then joins Ryugumon in the battle against Leviamon, who has launched an all-out attack in search of the Dragon Crystal.

After the battle against the Demon Lord of Envy, she heads to the battlefield where Nezhamon and Erlangmon: Blast Mode have prepared to face Lucemon: Falldown Mode and his forces. Despite the Demon Lord's attempts to poison the relationship between the two childhood friends, Nezhamon remains unwavering in his trust for Shagaramon, and intends to use his finishing move, using his own life to ignite his Digicore and open a passage for Erlangmon. Despite Nezhamon's pleas for Shagaramon to flee, she decides to stay by her friend's side until the end, with both sacrificing their lives to entrust Erlangmon with the responsibility of ending the war.
