New Digital World
The New Digital World (NEWデジタルワールド, New Dejitaru Wārudo), abbreviated as NDW, is a region of subspace created by the Host Computer, Yggdrasill, after the original Digital World approached its maximum storage capacity. It is an experimental virtual space established to accommodate selected Digimon as part of Project Ark.
Overview[edit]
As Digimon continued to grow, evolve, and multiply, the original Digital World approached its storage limit. Exceeding that limit would result in the world's destruction, prompting Yggdrasill to create the New Digital World and transfer only a selected number of Digimon there. The former world became known as the "Old Digital World", and the Digimon left behind were targeted for elimination by the Royal Knights and the X-Program as part of Project Ark.[1]
Yggdrasill created the New Digital World by isolating a partition of the original Digital World. It is located externally to Yggdrasill, so that the data stored within it does not accumulate in or place a strain on the Host Computer itself. Despite their separation, the Old and New Digital Worlds are under combined management.[2]
The New Digital World employs a three-tiered structure known as the "Chronicle Layer System" (クロニクルレイヤーシステム, Kuronikuru Reiyā Shisutemu), designed to accommodate different evolutionary types of Digimon. Its three layers correspond to the past, present, and future, and are accessed through the Ulud, Versandi, and Skuld Terminals, respectively. Yggdrasill appointed these Terminals to facilitate the management and observation of the layer structure. All of the original Digital World's dimensions were recreated within the New Digital World, with the Versandi Terminal being the most similar to the former world.[1][2]
Structure[edit]
The three layers are interconnected. Events in the lowest layer, which governs the past, affect the layers above it, while the uppermost layer reflects information from both of the lower layers.[2]
Ulud Terminal[edit]
The Ulud Terminal represents the past and occupies the lowest layer. It is a world of abundant nature inhabited by Ancient Digimon, including many ferocious Dinosaur and Beast Digimon. Events in this layer affect both the Versandi and Skuld Terminals.
It consists of the Rolan Continent, Goldia Continent, and Lemoore Continent. The Rolan Continent is home to the "Legendary Dragon King" and contains a forest where the "Forest Leaf" (フォレストリーフ, Foresuto Rīfu), which connects this world to Witchelny, can be found. Repeated sightings of the "Warrior of Fantasy", Medieval Dukemon, have also been reported there.[2]
Versandi Terminal[edit]
The Versandi Terminal represents the present and occupies the middle layer. It reflects events in the Ulud Terminal and, in turn, affects the Skuld Terminal.
Islands and continents from the original Digital World were relocated here, making it the layer most similar to the former world. Digimon of many different kinds inhabit it, and it supports the greatest number and variety of Digimon species among the three layers. It is also comparatively peaceful.[2]
Skuld Terminal[edit]
The Skuld Terminal represents the future and occupies the uppermost layer. It simulates a future predicted by Yggdrasill, incorporating information from both the Ulud and Versandi Terminals.
It is inhabited by Artificial Evolution Digimon and characterized by a futuristic city lined with high-rise buildings, ruled over by Cyborg and Machine Digimon. The Royal Base floats above the terminal, while the covert honey corps "Royal Commando" carries out covert operations on the ground.[2]

Digital Monster X-evolution[edit]
Yggdrasill transfers the Royal Knights and selected Digimon to the New Digital World before unleashing the X-Program on the original world. However, some of the Digimon left behind survive by acquiring the X-Antibody and subsequently reach the New Digital World.
Their arrival creates conflict with the Digimon chosen by Yggdrasill, and the Royal Knights are ordered to eliminate them. DORUmon travels through this world while facing persecution and becoming involved in the conflict between the Royal Knights and the X-Antibody Digimon. During its travels, it befriends and protects Tokomon.

In 2003, the continued growth, evolution, and multiplication of Digimon threaten to exceed the Digital World's storage capacity and cause its destruction. To prevent this, Yggdrasill creates the New Digital World and transfers only selected Digimon there as part of Project Ark. The former world becomes known as the "Old Digital World", and the Digimon left behind are targeted for elimination by the Royal Knights and the X-Program.
Some of these Digimon survive by developing the X-Antibody, which protects them from the X-Program and alters their forms. Doumoto Kouta and Musha Yuuji enter the Digital World and become partners with DORUmon and Ryudamon, respectively, becoming involved in the resistance against Yggdrasill and the Royal Knights.

Digimon Chronicle X[edit]
Following Project Ark, contamination by the X-Program transforms the Old Digital World into a "world of death", and it is placed under strict lockdown. Yggdrasill attempts to discard it, but the contamination prevents its safe deletion. To protect the New Digital World from infection, Yggdrasill establishes extensive security measures along the access route to the Old Digital World, concealing its existence.
Approximately a decade later, the concentration of the X-Program has decreased to a level at which it no longer directly affects the bodies of Digimon. Yggdrasill temporarily lifts the restrictions and orders the Royal Knights to investigate the Old Digital World's condition. Craniummon and Sleipmon are selected to conduct the reconnaissance and receive the X-Antibody as a precaution against the remaining X-Program.
The subsequent emergence of the Seven Great Demon Lords and their forces from the Dark Area threatens both the Old and New Digital Worlds. The Royal Knights remaining in the New Digital World are deployed to oppose their advance.
Other inhabitants also travel to the Old Digital World to help defend it. Justimon (X-Antibody) and Siesamon (X-Antibody) explain that they were inspired by courageous travelers and decided to protect the Digital World through their own efforts, rather than relying solely on the Royal Knights.
