Personality[edit]

Since Bakumon's only speaking appearance is a brief, post-Reboot one, not much is shown of its personality. Like Piyomon, it is distrustful of Maki post-Reboot and does not believe any of her claims about their prior relationship, and bluntly tells her this. It also appears to enjoy picking flowers.

Appearances[edit]

Anime[edit]

Digimon Adventure[edit]

In "The Final Dark Digimon", when Gennai tells the story of the original Chosen Children defeating the evil sealed behind the Wall of Fire, the group, including Bakumon and Maki, are shown in silhouette.[N 1]

Digimon Adventure tri.[edit]

A flashback in "Loss" depicts the original Chosen Children's final fight with the Dark Masters. When the other four partner Digimon evolve into the Four Holy Beasts, Bakumon (as Megadramon) absorbs the attacks of the Four Holy Beasts and sacrifices itself to channel them into one powerful burst that defeats the Dark Masters. As seen in a further flashback to her university years, Maki later finds out that Bakumon's sacrifice is permanent, and that it can never be reborn as a Digitama. Its loss devastates her, and she becomes obsessed with finding a way to reunite with it. While at university, she discovers the theoretical existence of the Reboot and becomes convinced that somehow causing one will reunite her with Bakumon.

Following the Reboot in "Confession", Maki locates the coordinates in the post-Reboot Digital World where Bakumon is, and enters the Digital World in search of it. In "Loss", Nishijima Daigo finds these coordinates on her computer, as well as a series of emails with the Mysterious Man (whom he misidentifies as Gennai) in which the two had struck a deal to use Meicoomon to cause the Reboot, and deduces Maki's intentions.

Maki tracks Bakumon to a field where it is gathering flowers. She hugs it, but it has no recollection of her and calls her a liar for claiming that they are partners, and tries to run away. Maki snaps and tries to threaten it into remembering, but does not succeed. As of "Coexistence", Bakumon has fled and disappeared. Maki wanders aimlessly in a delusional haze to find it in the Dark Ocean.

References Notes
  1. When "The Final Dark Digimon" was produced in 2000, none of the characters of the original Chosen Children, including Maki and Bakumon, had been conceived or designed, as these characters would only later be created for Digimon Adventure tri. The group is depicted with reused silhouettes of Yagami Taichi, Ishida Yamato, Takenouchi Sora, Izumi Koushirou, Takaishi Takeru, and their respective partner Digimon as placeholders.
