Evolves From/To Sections on Digimon Pages[edit]

I've been thinking about an issue I have with the Evolves From/To sections on Digimon pages. They seem very disorganized and hard to navigate. Sure, all of the previous/next forms are in alphabetical order, but regular Evolutions are mixed in with Armor Evolutions, Warp Evolutions, Spirit Evolutions, Jogress Evolutions, Burst Evolutions, and Xros fusions. While most are marked as such with some text in brackets, I have specific trouble telling apart Jogresses and Xroses at times. The Level of the Digimon that is being evolved to/from is also not indicated, leading to specific trouble when, say, a Baby 1 is evolving directly into an Adult instead of a Baby 2 or Child.

I was thinking, what if we added a color coding system to indicate what type of evolution is taking place and/or the level of the Digimon being evolved into? What are your thoughts? --Part-Time Digimon Fan - Mackinz (talk) 00:19, 31 July 2014 (CDT)

It actually already IS noted for special evolutions: V-mon#Evolution Example. It is in alphabetical order because there are times when there are different evolution requirements for the same digimon in different media (aka, Slide vs Armor vs Jogress) and it is always noted when it occurs. Level would be ridiculous to implement because some digimon have multiple levels. And really, all you have to do is click the evolution's page to see what it is. We don't control what Bandai decides is an evolution and it is perfectly normal for digimon to skip levels, we just reference the material it comes from. --devkyu (talk) 14:45, 31 July 2014 (CDT)

Recent species articles[edit]

Are all those recently created "species" pages, sometimes with just three members (e.g. Taomon-species, Rapidmon-species, Orgemon-species), really necessary? Most importantly, they are not mentioned anywhere (with a few exceptions such as Mamemon-species), so there are not any links to them (besides the ones on this page). For a list of related species, we already have the "Subspecies/Variations" part in the infoboxes. But I don't think we need a species page for every Digimon that has entries there when there is not a single link to it. --Grandy02 (talk) 01:59, 19 July 2014 (CDT)

Went through and deleted the non-canonical species pages that I could find. --devkyu (talk) 04:14, 24 July 2014 (CDT)
Devimon-species and Garurumon-species also appear under "orphaned pages", what about these? --Grandy02 (talk) 13:33, 24 July 2014 (CDT)

Limit for number of anime screenshots?[edit]

Recently a certain user has removed anime screenshots from some Digimon pages, saying that there are too many of them. Most of those "excessive" screenshot galleries with six or more images were added years ago by then admin Daisuke Motomiya as well as a user named Digeli555. Specifically Blitzmon, Fairimon, Shutumon, Ranamon, Susanoomon, Lucemon, Lucemon Falldown Mode, Lucemon: Satan Mode, and Honeybeemon (all from Digimon Frontier). Should the rules include a limit for those screenshots, or the user's edits be reverted instead? --Grandy02 (talk) 11:50, 15 December 2013 (CST)

That definitely seems like a good idea. And keep in mind at the time a lot of the screenshots were added, we didn't have an Image Gallery incorporated onto the Digimon's pages. Not to mention some users keep insisting on uploading images that exceed a 1MB in size, which can't be good for the server to load super image heavy pages. At some point I'd like to maybe keep screenshots to the Episode pages, except for ones with particularly sparse Galleries.--devkyu (talk) 19:37, 12 January 2014 (CST)
Space is not an issue, but I agree that we don't need redundant images all over. If anything, they could be a separate page like Honeybeemon/Gallery or whatever. --Koroku (talk) 16:45, 17 January 2014 (CST)

Upgrade[edit]

For any issues with the upgrade, please list them here or e-mail me at [email protected] --Koroku (talk) 10:47, 30 May 2013 (CDT)

The background has been changed to (nearly) white in several locations (e.g. header fields in a table (example), marked text in version difference pages (example), and the login page), which renders text unreadable. On many pages, the category "Pages with broken file links" (e.g. Agumon) appears now, probably because of the missing card images. --Grandy02 (talk) 13:03, 30 May 2013 (CDT)
The color issues will hopefully be dealt with the new theme, until then we can either manually change them or just deal with it. The problem is that so much on here is coded with specific colors, instead of relying on stylesheets. It'd be a huge pain to ever change from a dark to a light theme... As for the new categories, that's a MediaWiki upgrade "feature" and might actually come to of some use. I can look into how to turn them off if we want tho. --Koroku (talk) 13:11, 30 May 2013 (CDT)
Well, the site is actually loading faster than I'm used to. As for the color coding on tables, that blips back to default every time there is an upgrade. Thankfully it's generally an easy fix. It would be nice to be able to alternate themes, but Ainz was the one with the most wiki coding experience (and thus made everything pretty) and I haven't heard from him in a long time. Hope he's okay. --devkyu (talk) 22:59, 30 May 2013 (CDT)

Site theme[edit]

Sorry if this is stupid, but is there an option to turn off the animated background on the site theme? Not that I think the background is bad looking or anything, but the background does sometimes make my browser lag like crazy so I was wondering if there is a way to turn it off? --Garmmon 11:46, 23 May 2013 (CDT)

It's just an animated gif, so unfortunately not that I know of. If there was an option to have multiple themes, we could always make one with a different BG image optional.--devkyu 15:31, 23 May 2013 (CDT)
Certain browsers allow to turn off gif animations or to block specific images (at least Opera can do both things). --Grandy02 08:13, 24 May 2013 (CDT)
It's okay, I just figured out how to turn it off using adblock haha. Thanks though :) --Garmmon 10:52, 24 May 2013 (CDT)

Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) we'll have a new theme altogether. --Koroku (talk) 10:47, 30 May 2013 (CDT)

Recent card uploads[edit]

I can't compare them since the Card Terminal of With the Will is currently offline, but aren't all the recently uploaded Alpha card scans from said site (and would therefore have to be deleted)? --Grandy02 10:09, 7 May 2013 (CDT)

The user who uploaded them says that they are taken from digifur.com. But still, I'm 99% sure that all of them are originally from With the Will (at least the previously deleted WtW scans at Wikimon look exactly the same as the current ones). Or have they changed their policy and allow others to use their scans now? --Grandy02 08:18, 8 May 2013 (CDT)
I have all of WtW's cards hoarded away, and just compared several of the uploads to them. Of all the ones I checked, they are definitely from WtW, as small scratches and dust spots on the cards match. As far as I know, With the Will's policy of not sharing hasn't changed, even if their Card Terminal seems to still be down. Until With the Will changes their minds, they will have to be deleted.--devkyu 12:22, 8 May 2013 (CDT)
And for reference until the Card Terminal is back up, so stolen cards can be identified easier, you can find most of them in this folder. --devkyu 12:36, 8 May 2013 (CDT)
Okay, that means that hundreds of images have to be deleted. Could you help with that, please? But in some cases (in particular the cards of Alpha Evolve 8) we have our own scans, so only the recent versions have to be deleted for those. --Grandy02 15:06, 8 May 2013 (CDT)
Has anyone thought to ask WtW and see if they have changed their minds? Granted, because of who I am, I doubt it, but hey, they might. --Koroku 18:32, 8 May 2013 (CDT)
Anwer is pretty much nope. Also Card Terminal is coming back online in a month or two. Whelp, time to start mass baleeting. --devkyu 14:31, 9 May 2013 (CDT)

Now a lot of WtW scans have been uploaded again. Is Charles.929 one of the original contributers of Card Terminal like Parukeruru-san, or is there need for mass deleting again? --Grandy02 (talk) 13:17, 28 August 2013 (CDT)

Again, several WtW scans uploaded recently (by user War Grey). Card Terminal is still offline - since one and a half year, I think? Any news? Should the images be deleted just like before? --Grandy02 (talk) 12:38, 31 May 2014 (CDT)

RPG & Masters as references and evos in general[edit]

A new user has added a number of evolutions from Digimon RPG & Masters to articles. But before removing (or keeping) those all, I think there needs to be a general consensus on this issue. The games have not only been used as refs for evolutions, but also for other things such as attacks (e.g. Chaos Piemon and Gizmon: XT). I think the there's nothing more than the little hint on the Main Page that tells users not to use the RPG & Masters as refs, it is easy to overlook. It should either be disallowed to use them as refs in general (not just evos) or they should be treated like the other games.
On evolutions, I think those lists need an overhaul. Especially when they are lot of "withs" in the list, they don't look that nice. With a table template, the "withs" could be organized in a second column. --Grandy02 05:12, 10 November 2012 (CST)

As someone who's not been on this site for that long, it feels arbitrary to accept some games as sources and not others. As Digimon is a multi-continuity franchise, it's not really a duty for fans to decide which continuities are appropriate and which are not; they all have an equal status of being canon within their own bounds.--B14 07:35, 10 November 2012 (CST)
I think they are excluded because they are Korean games not published by Bandai or something. But personally, I have nothing against treating them like the other games, as they are still official Digimon media. Why should their evolutions be less notable than the many evos only relevant for a single card each? --Grandy02 13:36, 12 November 2012 (CST)
I don't particularly care either way. For the most part the games just seem to follow the most common evolution lines used by other media in the franchise, minus the odd "burst mode" evolutions. As long as they are properly referenced and used the correct names (Gubamon? fucking seriously), I don't mind it.--devkyu 21:05, 12 November 2012 (CST)
So, is this the final decision? Then the hint on the Main Page would have to be removed. --Grandy02 10:23, 16 November 2012 (CST)
A bit late to the discussion, but it's something that seems sensible in general: Split the evolution on the pages by the continuity from which they originate. Evolution (and the individual digimon for that matter) seems to work differently from universe to universe, so throwing them all together seems like the wrong move.--Ijffdrie 16:51, 23 January 2013 (CST)

Spambots Again[edit]

Even though e-mail confirmation has been introduced, the spambots are now almost as annoying as before. What e-mail addresses are they using? Is it possible to prevent confirmation for certain addresses? --Grandy02 06:18, 27 September 2012 (CDT)

That is something pawitp might know.--devkyu 16:15, 28 September 2012 (CDT)
I've done about everything that we can do before having to active each account by hand. --Koroku 19:07, 28 September 2012 (CDT)
Well, first off, I'd suggest installing AbuseFilter and using the ones on User:Devkyu/AntiSpam, including the one I just added since bots often use [[Image: links (you also need a message like this to explain it to readers).
It is also effective to inspect the referrer on accesses to certain pages. I find that sometimes bots are POSTing to the account creation page (look for "type=signup" in URL), or to edit pages or upload files, with a referrer that is just the domain name, / or /wiki/. These will always redirect to an actual page for real users, so these must be constructed requests.
Also, your list of DNS blacklists may need updating - here's what WikiFur uses. I suggest pinging from your server to see which are the fastest and arranging the list accordingly.
# Use SORBS backlist - ordered by current speed
$wgEnableDnsBlacklist = true;
$wgDnsBlacklistUrls = array( 'combined.abuse.ch.', 'xbl.spamhaus.org.', 'dnsbl-3.uceprotect.net.', 'dnsbl-2.uceprotect.net.', 'cbl.abuseat.org.', 'http.dnsbl.sorbs.net.' ); //, 'opm.tornevall.org.' );
Incidentally, your MediaWiki version appears to be out of date, which is a security risk. (I need to update myself, but I have patched 1.17.5 for now, and the issues in that version were not too serious - but you have 1.17.0 right now.) GreenReaper 18:19, 29 September 2012 (CDT)
Okay, until someone manages to update the back end with everything GreenReaper recommended, can we just like... turn off registrations for a bit? Dozens of new spambots per DAY is getting completely ridiculous and we spend more time deleting and ban hammering than we do actually editing anything at this point.--devkyu 10:17, 25 October 2012 (CDT)
It's a pain, I know. We're still getting registrations ourselves, although I've managed to tamp down on their number and block their editing. You could add a notice on the front page giving prospective users an email address to contact, while keeping registered users able to register new accounts. If you're logged in, you can then just create another account and give it to them. GreenReaper 21:16, 25 October 2012 (CDT)

Something has to be done about this, I'm tired of opening the "Recent changes" page and seeing a dozen of spam pages (plus images) that have popped up since yesterday. KrytenKoro once suggested the following "Can you put in a requirement that you have the account for X days before inserting external links, or you have to be an admin to insert links without a recaptcha or quiz question?". Is that possible? --Grandy02 10:37, 19 March 2013 (CDT)

I agree. Could we just shut off new user registration until things are fixed up, and just have potential new users have to e-mail someone or require some sort of verification? --Tsum 21:59, 19 March 2013 (CDT)

User registration has been turned off. --Koroku 17:15, 20 March 2013 (CDT)

THANK YOU! --devkyu 00:54, 12 April 2013 (CDT)

Character Pages[edit]

Okay, it's been a long time coming, but the various human character pages are kind of a huge, inconsistent mess. The current template (if we can even call it that) is rather limiting and doesn't really encompass a lot of information. An idea we had a while back was to make the template similar to the S-template used for digimon profiles (etymology, tabs, etc), but... that's kind of a huge, complicated monster. And Ainz hasn't been on in a while to beg to help out with it, so possibly something a bit simpler.

But before we try and make a better template, we should figure out what should go on the pages, in addition to what the current (inadequate) template currently has. Currently I've added an Image Gallery to Mikagura Mirei's page. The most "complete" page we have is probably similar to Yagami Taichi... although "Profile" seems to make little sense, so perhaps replace it with "Appearances" and move Profile up into a tab with biographical information like with the Digimon template. Anyone have any suggestions or other input? Go nuts!--devkyu 03:38, 19 July 2012 (CDT)

I agree, those pages need an overhaul. They should have an Appearances section much like the Digimon pages, so the page gets much clearer and video game appearances can be easily incorporated, too (Daimon Masaru already uses such structure). The Image Gallery would serve exactly the same function as on Digimon pages. --Grandy02 11:13, 24 July 2012 (CDT)

I've created a template that is already used on various pages. While it is not comparable to the Digimon template, it is better than nothing for a start. What do you think? --Grandy02 15:20, 25 August 2012 (CDT)

Looking great so far! Definitely an improvement to the table we've been using.--devkyu 16:00, 25 August 2012 (CDT)
Thanks! :-) --Grandy02 13:17, 26 August 2012 (CDT)

We should throw in a character design (looks), trivia, and personality sub areas if at all possible. And maybe a collapsible image gallery that is closed by default. Most wikis have stuff like that for characters. --Daisuke Motomiya 13:19, 4 September 2012 (CDT)

I like the idea of the collapsible image gallery, but more or less for the Digimon pages too. At least as far as Adventure 02 goes, I have a bunch of the line art books, which I can (eventually) finish scanning in and add to the character pages. And I know we have something akin to trivia and character design for Alice. There is probably quite a bit more info in the Digimon Memorial Chronicle book. I can scan those in once I get it. --devkyu 16:15, 28 September 2012 (CDT)

Main Page Error[edit]

When I try to view the Main Page as a guest, I often see just the "This is a cached copy..." placeholder page. This has also occurred in the past, but now it seems to happen almost daily. I have to log in and make an "edit" without any changes to clear the page's cache. Then it's alright, but on the next day, the aforementioned page appears again instead. In the many hours before the clearing of the cache, guests who try to access "wikimon.net" or click on the site's logo merely get to see a placeholder page, which makes a bad impression, I think. --Grandy02 11:39, 5 March 2013 (CST)

That is strange. What browser are you using? I tested it on both Chrome and Firefox and haven't seen that particular error pop up. Do you know if anyone else has the same problem? --devkyu 15:05, 6 March 2013 (CST)
I get the same problem, on Chrome. In fact, I get it even when I try to see the main page while logged in, not even as a guest. Friends of mine have had the same problem, too. -- Blaze Dragon 15:20, 6 March 2013 (CST)
I doubt it is a browser-related issue, but at least today said page doesn't appear. --Grandy02 09:24, 7 March 2013 (CST)
Today the error occured again, even though I edited the Main Page earlier this day. I tried different browsers, the result remains the same. --Grandy02 08:10, 8 March 2013 (CST)
Only the main page? --Koroku 17:16, 20 March 2013 (CDT)
Rarely, a similar page appears elsewhere, but those usually disappear after refreshing a few times. The reason for the page is stated to be "max_active_user_connections" or something. In case of the placeholder page for the Main Page, one can refresh a dozen times and nothing changes at all, and the error is simply named "unknown error(localhost)". --Grandy02 12:02, 22 March 2013 (CDT)
I'll let pawitp know. --Koroku 20:44, 22 March 2013 (CDT)
"Can I get a screenshot next time this happens?" - pawitp
He's made a few small changes. Let us know if it happens again. --Koroku 11:00, 24 March 2013 (CDT)

"I've increased the maximum number of database connection to see if it'll help or not.

The real problem at hand, though, is that mediawiki is caching these error pages. The next time this happen, can the error page be saved (in .html) and sent to me so that I can figure out how to prevent mediawiki from caching it?" - pawitp

Thanks to Grandy02 for sending me the HTML file. Pawit thinks that we should have the solution taken care of. If you see it again, please do the same procedure. :) --Koroku (talk) 10:47, 30 May 2013 (CDT)

Reopening Registration[edit]

Since we closed registration, the wiki has been updated multiple times, and we've hired a few new staff members. Would people be opposed to me reopening registration, even if it means a few spam bots? I'm hoping that there are enough protections built in now against them. --Koroku (talk) 12:16, 27 September 2013 (CDT)

If the proper updates are in place, it should be fine to open it, at least for a little while. If we start getting 50+ bots a day again, then we can always just close it back up.--devkyu (talk) 21:51, 27 September 2013 (CDT)

So much for that. 36 hours and at least 10 spam bots. --Koroku (talk) 22:31, 30 October 2013 (CDT)

Locations Pages[edit]

Since Fusion is airing, I figured I would go through and clean up the location pages. I made a new locations template (Template:Area) that should help unclutter them quite a bit. I will also be going through and getting some proper screenshots for each page. If there is anything anyone can think of to change or add to how we do locations pages, be sure to tell me so I can work it in. --devkyu (talk) 02:42, 8 September 2013 (CDT)

Affiliates[edit]

Hi, I come from Starfy Wiki. I noticed that Starfy Wiki and Lylat Wiki have been removed from the affiliates? Why is this? I'm confused as Starfy Wiki still has you listed as affiliates, and Lylat Wiki have you on their affiliates page too. Torchickens (talk) 10:53, 5 October 2013 (CDT)

V-mon's Card from Digimon World X[edit]

Blackikun from the German website Digimons World ( I'm a forum member and News Hunter there ) asked me if we want a scan of the V-mon card that came with Digimon World X. He could provide us with one. --MugenSeiRyuu (talk) 08:43, 23 August 2013 (CDT)

That would be awesome! :3 --devkyu (talk) 02:39, 8 September 2013 (CDT)

Citation policy?[edit]

Hi everybody. I've been doing Digimon research for years now and I've compiled some really thorough lists of Digimon attacks and evolutions. Unfortunately most of these came from researching FAQs and game Wikis in English and Japanese, preferably cross-referencing 2+ sources for everything. However, since I didn't play the games myself but relied on secondary sources, I feel that I can't use this information on the Wiki (except for Version S, which I DID play and do research on before the archived DVR page was discovered). Of course, since I preferred Japanese sources I couldn't seek permission to use the information even if I wanted to: I don't have the means to ask for it! Please let me know if I'm wrong and it is okay to use secondary sources - I could totally provide a list of my sources if anybody's interested, too (including a site that has every alpha/Battle Terminal card transcribed). Elentir (talk) 11:28, 11 August 2016 (CDT)

New Banner Art?[edit]

It's been a while since it was first made, so I was thinking of making a new top banner (That doesn't involve at drawn around 2011). It would take a little while since is have to fit it in between work, but does anyone have any ideas for a theme or any particular digimon to add in? I figure something from tri and app monsters would be appropriate. Any thoughts would be appreciated!--devkyu (talk) 03:30, 13 June 2016 (CDT)

Yeah, especially since we're still in our 10th anniversary year, a new banner with something from tri. and Appli Monsters sounds cool. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 05:43, 13 June 2016 (CDT)

Server speed problems?[edit]

I wasn't sure if I should bring this up since I don't know if I'm the only one experiencing this, but very often for me wikimon will take very long to load while editing/saving edits, and often gives me a 500 internal server error afterwards (though the edits seem to be saved most of the time). Anyone know what might be the problem causing this? I do have a somewhat crap internet but other pages don't take as long to load as wikimon does. --Garmmon (talk) 04:37, 22 November 2015 (CST)

Yeah, for the past few days it's been agonizingly slow. I assumed it might be because of increased traffic due to Tri, since it's been super, super slow since it aired. --devkyu (talk) 01:05, 23 November 2015 (CST)
A server admin took a peek at it when I pointed out that I was trying to figure it out and he found that a caching service was dying on the server. He restarted it so things should start to behave a bit better now. I'm still investigating, but overall I think it will be on the right track again. Dkpat (talk) 09:52, 23 November 2015 (CST)
ah that sounds bad...but thank you for taking the trouble to look into/fix it! it should help a lot :> --Garmmon (talk) 06:39, 24 November 2015 (CST)
Yeah, thanks for taking care of that. I'd pretty much given up trying to do any edits because it kept timing out on me.--devkyu (talk) 00:14, 25 November 2015 (CST)

Starting to get really bad lag again. Not sure if it's just due to increased traffic because of Digimon Universe or a back-end problem. Anyone else experiencing speed issues?--devkyu (talk) 21:27, 9 June 2016 (CDT)

Mediawiki 1.25 Upgrade problems[edit]

Ainz mentioned below that they have been running into a few issues since the upgrade happened, so I'm starting this section to give a place for these to be documented. So far there's a problem editing protected pages and editing user preferences. Also Special Pages has problems. Please report anything else here and I'll see who I can grab to fix these up. (Even if it might be myself) Dkpat (talk) 00:19, 15 July 2015 (CDT)

I have updated a few things on the wiki, but I haven't completely gone through it all yet. I'm off to bed for tonight though. I'll take a look again soon! Dkpat (talk) 01:50, 15 July 2015 (CDT)
Fixed Sidebar link and fixed protected pages problem. If you know of any other problems, let me know!Dkpat (talk) 12:00, 26 July 2015 (CDT)

I tested out some JavaScript countdown timers a while ago but now they don't appear to work, not sure if it's due to the upgrade. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 16:21, 14 October 2015 (CDT)
Not sure if another update has occurred but most of the sections of the sidebar have disappeared. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 11:58, 12 November 2015 (CST)

Hi guys. I just saw all of these when I got the email about the sharing features(thought I was subscribed for updates, guess not) I'll try to look at all of these oddities too. Dkpat (talk) 08:51, 16 November 2015 (CST)

Content from e-mails[edit]

Every now and then I get stuff sent to me via e-mail and so I'll copy/paste it here for you guys. Do with it as you will. --Koroku (talk) 15:39, 4 March 2015 (CST)

Visual Dictionary 2002[edit]

I just managed to get a copy of the Digimon Zukan - Digital World Research White Paper book. From what I can tell it is essentially the holy grail of digimon profiles. Apparently it also has a lengthy terminology section in the back too. I'll be uploading scans of it as soon as possible, but does anyone have a preference for what gets prioritized? Most of the book is sorted by "Level" but there are separate sections for essentially "recolor" digimon and also special ones that appeared in V-Tamer. It is over 200 pages so I will get it all eventually, but I'd like to know what everyone would find more useful for the wiki first. --devkyu (talk) 12:20, 17 January 2015 (CST)

Image Uploads[edit]

As of late there has been quite a few users uploading images who obviously have not read the Rules page. As well as two users consistantly uploading the same image in excess of ten times in a row. THIS IS DUMB. STOP DOING THIS. Thank you. --devkyu (talk) 03:41, 16 June 2014 (CDT)

Main Page redesign needed[edit]

Hi guys, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the main page design needs to change. It's too wide to work in the new skin in a 1280px wide laptop display. (fairly common) It needs to be made thinner. Changing the skin isn't really a solution either.Dkpat (talk) 19:07, 20 February 2014 (CST)

The Main Page needs a complete reboot period; it's been more the less the same for like 6+ years and all the more to fit in with this new skin. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 02:02, 21 February 2014 (CST)
So.. does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for this? Dkpat (talk) 18:42, 27 February 2014 (CST)

Well, first off we can cut the Watch Along and Digimon Websites. Tasks might be better suited to its own page, or even being integrated into the Community Portal here. I like the Featured Article, but the Featured Image is always so buried, do we really need it? The Digimon Dictionary updates (and the feed) could be condensed - why not just have the pictures for the most recent 3/5? So really, we could just condense it down and reformat it. Maybe something like

Has anyone started on a sample page? If not, I'll try to start one out for you all. (Since I'm not really part of the community, I don't really want to make it myself) Dkpat (talk) 11:51, 1 May 2014 (CDT)

Hi everyone. I'm going to push for the default skin to be changed to neowikimon now. Dkpat (talk) 12:48, 12 July 2015 (CDT)

I've designed a Main Page to go along with the neowikimon skin, just aiming to fully complete it before Wikimon's 10th birthday. There are additional features that I'll explain about in more detail once it gets nearer its completion. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 14:42, 12 July 2015 (CDT)
Just noticed the MediaWiki update and the Neowikimon skin currently isn't displaying. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 19:41, 13 July 2015 (CDT)
Yeah. I requested an update to the server so that I could update my wiki, GSU to MW 1.25.1. It just so happens that the server PHP update can not run MW 1.23, which Wikimon was running on. So the server tech updated Wikimon to the new version... which coincidentally broke skins in a few ways. I'm working on fixing them as we speak. (I wish MediaWiki would stop messing with how skins work) Dkpat (talk) 23:52, 13 July 2015 (CDT)
Although the skin's fixed, several other problems have presented themselves. For example, the Main Page, as well as other protected pages currently cannot be edited by admins/bureaucrats, Special:SpecialPages is borked and User Preferences can't be customized; I'm not sure what other issues have arisen. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 23:40, 14 July 2015 (CDT)

Video[edit]

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:HTML5video Want? We could put up the openings/endings and stuff. :) I have this server we might as well use it. --Koroku (talk) 16:25, 9 June 2013 (CDT)

Name Consistency[edit]

Okay so long story short Bandai is being retarded (like this is anything new) and now there we have multiple romanizations for names piling up. We're just going to move some pages around for consistency and familiarity (Talk:Khaosmon). Main template might get adjusted a bit to properly reference where each official romanization comes from just to keep track of them of course, but can anyone think of titles that should get switched around? Currently it's likely Khaosmon -> Chaosmon (for Chaosmon Valdur Arm), RegVagimon -> RedVegimon (to match with Vegimon). I'm also in favor of moving GrandDracumon back to GranDracmon, since the latter predates the former, is more in line with the katakana, and was used in more media officially. There is also "Tunomon" which I can only find a single use of, versus like 13+ years of Tsunomon.--devkyu 00:54, 12 April 2013 (CDT)

HC Card Template[edit]

Is it possible to change the HC card template so that instead of making all the Japanese text inputtable via a separate template, you can input the Japanese text directly into the HC template itself? Because I think that would save a lot of trouble in the Special Abilities section, not having to make separate template pages for each different text that appears? --Garmmon 09:25, 6 April 2013 (CDT)

I think that would be a good idea. Since I doubt there will ever be any more changes to the main template at this point, maybe someone should make a duplicate(HC2) with a few tweaks that allows direct input? Someone that isn't me, because any template I touch that Ainz made explodes violently >.>;; --devkyu 00:54, 12 April 2013 (CDT)
I mostly work on the cards (if I even work on anything anymore lol), so I just wanted to know if this is still possible to implement? I think there's too many unique card texts that make creating templates for each one too cumbersome. I've tried fiddling with the template but coding is really not my strong suit :v --Garmmon (talk) 00:05, 14 July 2015 (CDT)
As in similar to how the Japanese for the card blurbs are inputted? --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 02:01, 14 July 2015 (CDT)
Yup! something like that would be great :) --Garmmon (talk) 09:32, 14 July 2015 (CDT)
I've managed to alter the template with some slight modifications, mainly for the requirements section. For examples, here are the possible variables for the requirements (still need to write a documentation for it) and Re-41. I just need to modify HCO in a similar way, in addition to the categories and stuff. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 21:51, 14 July 2015 (CDT)
I've finally modified HCO to allow for the Japanese raw text, tested it out on Sp-27. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 20:19, 15 July 2015 (CDT)
Ahh thank you for the help!! I've tried it out and it seems to be fine; I'll slowly go through and edit the cards eventually :) But I also noticed the Japanese evolution requirements seems to have broken (like in St-61), I'm not sure if having a colon in the template title will screw up anything but if not I can go ahead and make the template pages again --Garmmon (talk) 21:49, 16 July 2015 (CDT)
I've just added a documentation for the HC modification. I'll help you out too! --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 22:16, 16 July 2015 (CDT)
Nice, that helps a lot! Thanks so much!! :D --Garmmon (talk) 11:03, 17 July 2015 (CDT)
No probs! ^^ --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 12:46, 17 July 2015 (CDT)
Sorry for the trouble again :s do you think it's possible to add in a small section in the template to write the illustrator's name? Since some cards illustrated by different people have the artists' names on them. Though I was thinking about this more for the Jintrix/Digica Taisen templates since those cards do state the illustrator for each card (even if I can't find the different illustrators for digica taisen for heck...)--Garmmon (talk) 21:44, 20 July 2015 (CDT)
I've added a section for the ilustrator's name to HC, I just need to add it to the Jintrix & Digica Taisen templates. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 01:58, 21 July 2015 (CDT)
Thank you for all the help!! >< --Garmmon (talk) 20:34, 21 July 2015 (CDT)
Would it be possible to change the HC template so that the Japanese side for the 'ext' field can be inputted manually instead of using templates? Because including the support effects mean there would be a lot of new templates that have to be created :( Thank you! --Garmmon (talk) 13:35, 19 June 2016 (CDT)
I've added an "extj" field for the raw Japanese text. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 15:19, 19 June 2016 (CDT)
Nice, thanks so much for the help! --Garmmon (talk) 05:27, 20 June 2016 (CDT)
Sorry for the trouble again; would it be possible to add an 'ext2j' field as well? Thank you! --Garmmon (talk) 11:43, 25 June 2016 (CDT)
Added "ext2j" and "ext3j". --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 13:05, 25 June 2016 (CDT)
Thanks for the help!! (edit: there seems to be a problem where an empty '{{ }}' would show up when there isn't any ext2; example at Sx-8. would it be possible to fix that too? Sorry and thank you!)--Garmmon (talk) 12:41, 26 June 2016 (CDT)
Fixed. --Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 10:53, 29 June 2016 (CDT)

Template pages to delete/Card Game Alpha template[edit]

I realised that I couldn't edit the following template pages due to constant edit conflicts; could any of the admins help to delete them? Thank you! Template:Destroyed_VoiceK Template:Inferno_GateK Template:Golden_Tri-Horn_AttackK Template:Down_TornadoK Also, would it be possible to change the Card Game Alpha (AE) card template to allow for japanese input (similar to the HC template)? Thank you and sorry for the trouble! --Garmmon (talk) 11:27, 2 August 2016 (CDT)

Game/V-pet info and profiles[edit]

I've been testing out some tables for Digimon game/v-pet info here: User:Garmmon/Sandbox3 The game ones are quite messy but the v-pet ones still look relatively ok. Just a few concerns;

  • It might be a lot of unique templates to make? I only know a bit on how to make tables so I'm mostly clueless on how to make them into templates. I'm not sure if separate tables for each game might be too excessive and if there's a better way to display them?
  • If the tables are ok, should they contain Japanese info too (aside from profiles)? I know it's not a priority, but just wondering since Japanese people do refer to this site
  • Should the game info be on the respective game pages or on the Digimon's page? I like comparing all the same Digimon's info on one page myself, but I'm afraid it might make the page a bit too heavy (unless it is split into subpages, but that's probably too much work); even now I've seen complaints about wikimon being heavy to load already.
  • Info for some games might be a bit hard to dig out now without having the game on hand. That's partly the reason I'd like to have them all in one place, but that'll take a lot of time.

Either way, my main motivation for this is that the Digimon pages' image galleries are getting a bit messy, so I thought to divide it up so that the v-pet/game images would be with the game info, and the rest of the gallery can be sorted into Toei/Bandai/Game Art/Misc (maybe in separate rows/tables/tabs). Sorry I'm talking a lot for someone who can't really do much, but I just thought to ask if there are any opinions on these matters (game info and image gallery) in general? --Garmmon (talk) 14:33, 4 August 2016 (CDT)

New Wikimon Theme[edit]

Hi guys, I'm dkpat or Dillion, and I'll be helping out with this process. :) I've created the theme for a few other wikis, so I do have experience with it. I'm hoping I can get some ideas of what everyone would like to see from a new design. Any particular things you don't like about the current skin, or features you'd like to see return? Dkpat (talk) 16:31, 9 June 2013 (CDT)

The background!! It's sooo annoying. (No offence, Ainz!) --Koroku (talk) 16:40, 9 June 2013 (CDT)

Also, could one of the other admins fix him so he's purple too? I dunno how you guys do it (: --Koroku (talk) 16:40, 9 June 2013 (CDT)

Personally a mid color or darker theme is generally nice. Easier on the eyes than HOLY CRAP WHITE EVERYWHERE. And I think Grandy knows how to make usernames into fabulous purple.--devkyu (talk) 16:55, 9 June 2013 (CDT)
I also think the background is annoying. Mostly due to the fact that it's animated, which may or may not be a distraction while "navigating" around the wiki. ~KinHikari 17:55, 9 June 2013 (CDT)
I generally agree with everyone; I'm not too fond of the animated background (mostly because of loading times for me though), and I'd like to keep a darker colour scheme as it's easier on the eyes. Something dark and not too saturated seems good to me I guess :) --Garmmon (talk) 19:59, 9 June 2013 (CDT)

So in general, stay dark colored and get rid of the animated background. I'm going to suggest staying with a purple/blue/black theme because it would be easiest for the rest of the wiki's content to not need to change colors. I'm also going to suggest keeping a fluid width skin (one that doesn't stop expanding at a certain point) Because (well A, I haven't done a fluid skin in a while) and I think Fluid widths are much nicer in a wiki because everyone is used to them and they fill the screen so much better. With those two factors in mind, It will probably be a fairly similar layout to the current skin, just updated to use rounded edges, and to be a bit larger. If anyone disagrees with any of that, please do tell me, I don't mind changing my ideas. :) Dkpat (talk) 12:07, 10 June 2013 (CDT) I suppose I can toss this out here, just to show some examples, but please, I really don't want to make another Fire Emblem Skin. and excuse Icaruspedia's terrible colors... They were thrust onto me. http://dkpat.net/skinwiki/ Dkpat (talk) 12:33, 10 June 2013 (CDT)

Hey everyone, I know it's been awhile, but I'm starting to finally begin my design, and I've got my inspiration set, but I'm probably going to need the help of a talented artist/photoshopper (one who is familiar with the Digimon series) Do we have any volunteers? Dkpat (talk) 15:25, 2 August 2013 (CDT)
I suggest Devkyu! --Koroku (talk) 13:48, 9 August 2013 (CDT)
The new theme's coming along nicely! But yeah, it's something different for change since the 3+ years after the fifth anniversary (sorry for the late reply, I've been "dead" for ages hehehe)--Ainz ( talk | contribs ) 02:54, 13 January 2014 (CST)

Hey guys! It's getting much closer to being finished now! :D Dkpat (talk) 14:58, 16 January 2014 (CST)

Like I said on FB, I looooooooove the header. Amazing job Dev! --Koroku (talk) 16:46, 17 January 2014 (CST)
