Taichi and Koromon are frozen in shock, and Koromon looks terrified. After a moment of staring, Taichi asks a girl where he is. She stares at Koromon in fear, and starts crying before running away. Koromon is confused at her reaction, and Taichi tells him the girl is scared of him. Everyone around starts to look at Koromon, and Taichi picks him up and runs away. Taichi looks at a sign and confirms that they are really in Japan. They take the train to Taichi’s house, in an apartment building, and Koromon is awed by its size. Taichi stands outside the door for a moment, wondering how everyone will react to him. When they enter the apartment, Koromon says it’s smaller than it looked. The lights are off, and it seems empty. Taichi wonders what day it is as he goes to the fridge and gets a Cola. As he closes it, he sees that the calendar says August 1st, the same day he left for camp. He is shocked, and thinks about all the days they walked and monsters they fought in the Digital World. He starts to question whether this is a dream, or maybe the time in the Digital World wasn’t real.
As he deliberates, Koromon gets his attention, and he sees Hikari standing in the doorway of her bedroom. She comments that he’s home already, then casually notes that he brought Koromon with him. Both Taichi and Koromon are surprised, and ask how she knows who he is. She simply says that Koromon is Koromon.
Taichi confirms that Hikari has been home the whole time, and asks her where their parents are. She says they went to visit their grandmother, but left her home because she had a fever. Hikari asks why Taichi is back already, and he says he came to check on her. She asks what he meant earlier by the ‘other world’, and guesses that this is where he met Koromon. She asks if he went to camp like everyone else at all. This makes him wonder if any of the other children made it back, and he calls all of their houses. Brief inquiries show that no one else has returned. He wonders again which world is real, or if both are a dream. Hikari interrupts by asking if Taichi wants to eat some food that their parents left for her. Taichi decides to cook a meal, and makes three large helpings for everyone. Hikari takes a bite and asks if Taichi was always this good at cooking. He says Yamato taught him how to in the other world. After they finish eating, Koromon accidentally poops on the table, and Hikari takes him to the bathroom.
Taichi reclines on the couch and turns on the television, delighted to be home, and says he doesn’t care which world is a dream anymore. On the television, he sees reports of abnormal weather patterns, but what no one else seems to see are the monsters in the background. Meramon, Seadramon, and Yukidarumon are in hot, flooded, and freezing areas respectively. Taichi realizes that the weather is being caused by Digimon slipping through the rift between worlds. Hikari walks up and asks if he can see the monsters too. She says she’s seen them for a while, but no one she told believed her.
Suddenly, the television and air conditioning turns off. Taichi looks at his Digivice, which is glowing. The computer in the corner lets out a burst of static, and a pixelated image appears on the screen. Hikari points it out, and it solidifies into Koshiro’s face. He asks where Taichi is, and Taichi responds that he is at home. Koshiro tells him not to come back, and then the transmission closes. Taichi realizes that neither of the worlds are a dream, and guiltily asks if it’s ok for just him to be home. Hikari asks if he wants to eat watermelon. Taichi goes into his room and falls asleep while Koromon eats a large amount of watermelon. The ringing phone wakes Taichi up, and he comes out to find Hikari talking on it. He takes it and hears his mother talking on the other line. He doesn’t say anything for a while, and then puts the phone down hastily. He tells Koromon that if he says here forever, he won’t have to fight, and he can eat whatever he wants. His voice rises slightly as he tries to persuade Koromon and himself that staying here is the best choice. He angrily says his Digivice is what brought him to the other world, and is about to throw it when the ground shakes. He runs to the balcony and sees Tyranomon outside. The huge Digimon fires a blast of fire into a building, and Taichi immediately runs to the door with Koromon. Hikari doesn’t want him to go, and he orders her to stay in the house.
Taichi and Koromon run after Tyranomon, but he disappears. Next, Drimogemon appears, but fades out quickly. Koromon says that he needs to go back to the other world, because Digimon aren’t meant to be in Taichi’s world. Hikari runs up, and Taichi is upset. He tells her to go back home, but she starts to argue. Koromon sees Orgemon across the street, and cries out in alarm. Orgemon starts fighting Koromon, and the baby Digimon runs away. Koromon attacks with Bubbles, and calls for Taichi to get out of here. Taichi says they always fight together, and Koromon evolves into Agumon. As he evolves, a large rift opens in the sky, which starts to pull everything towards it. Agumon uses a Baby Flame to knock Orgemon into it, and then starts floating up himself.
Taichi doesn’t want to be separated, and starts to go after him. Hikari grabs his hand, and he says he’ll make sure to come back. He tells her to get better, then floats up after Agumon. The rift closes soon after. The narrator says that Hikari was left on her own, but would soon find her way to the Digital World. In the Yagami’s apartment, a Digivice is flashing on the table.
