Per Minato Ayumu, Suzumon was designed by PLEX staff for Digimon Eggs. As they describe it, "Japanese motifs [were] very important in the development of the story. So, out of various design ideas, we chose a bell. It's a Japanese item that evokes shrines and such, and it can also be depicted as something like a 'charm' that protects children, so I think we were able to choose a conceptual motif. The fact that the bell makes a sound when it moves is also appealing because it allows for interesting effects in the manga."[1]
Suzumon's singular eye bears resemblance to the iconic eyes of Agumon, the Digimon franchise mascot. The eye of Agumon has been featured in a number of promotional logos in much the same way the eye of Suzumon can be seen in promotional artwork depicting the eponymous egg of Digimon Eggs. This same eye design is also featured on Ukkomon, a Digimon deliberately designed to resemble Agumon for its role in Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning.[2] Within the Digimon Adventure continuity, both Ukkomon and Agumon are considered the "first" Partner Digimon in some way and are born in the Human World from Digitama. For example, Agumon is born, as a Botamon, from a Digitama that emerged from a computer in the Digimon Adventure film, much like Maga the Suzumon later is in Digimon Eggs. This film is cited as a strong influence on Eggs.[1]
