Anime[edit]

Digimon Tamers[edit]

In the beginning of a series, Takato found a strange blue card in his card collection. When he slashed the card in his card reader, it seemed that the device broke. After school, he saw a strange light emitting from the place where he hid his card collection. When he came, the Blue Card disappear and a D-Ark appeared in place of his card reader. The D-Ark scanned the images Takato drew of Guilmon, a Digimon he created, and actually brought Guilmon to life.

Takato struggled with the new reality of being a Tamer, but was helped by fellow Tamer Lee Jianliang. He also encountered Makino Ruki, the best Digimon card game player in Japan, who was also a Tamer, though they were off to a rocky start, as their views on the meaning of being a Tamer were opposite; while Ruki thought Digimon were only data, Takato believed that Digimon had souls and that their lives were as valuable as those of humans.

The Adventurers' Battle[edit]

Takato took Guilmon with him to the island of Okinawa, where he was to stay with his cousin, Urazoe Kai, and his grandfather. Takato wasn't thrilled with the idea of vacationing in Okinawa, but eventually found himself liking the experience. When Digimon started showing up in Okinawa, Takato, Guilmon and Kai took up battle with several of them. After saving Uehara Minami, the daughter of the creator of a V-Pet, Takato looked after her until she was kidnapped by rogue Digimon and taken to VP Labs. Takato, Growmon, Kai and Siesamon, Minami's "partner", rescued her and her father before engaging Mephismon in battle. Ruki, Jianliang and their partners soon joined the battle against the strong Digimon. When the battle continued into another dimension where Megalo Growmon, Rapidmon, and Taomon created the Trinity Burst to defeat Gulfmon.

The Runaway Digimon Express[edit]

After helping Juri prepare for Ruki's birthday party, he calls Ruki to let her know about it, much to her dismay. During that time, an out-of-control Locomon appears. Takato, hoping to stop him before any damage could be done, jumps aboard the Locomon. Once inside Locomon, he is joined by Ruki, and the two attempt to learn why the Locomon is running wild, with no success. After attempting to stop the Locomon manually, Ruki enters a trance-like state, and begins attacking Takato. Takato is pursued by Ruki onto Locomon's roof, where he realizes that both Ruki and Locomon have become possessed by Parasimon. After helping to free Ruki from Parasimon's control, Takato leads the other Tamers and their Digimon to defeat the Parasimon. Afterward, Takato attends Ruki's birthday party with the others.

Digimon Adventure[edit]

Takato and Guilmon first appeared in Episode 69, "Crimson Knight! Dukemon", where the sound of the latter's growling stomach attracted the attention of Yagami Taichi, Agumon and Hackmon. Taichi and Hackmon asked them for their names, the latter more rudely than the former, and they introduced themselves, with Takato pointing out they both had Digimon. Taichi and Agumon then introduced themselves, which surprised Takato, though he tried to pass it off as saying Taichi's name was that of a famous person he knew. Guilmon didn't try to hide how amazed he was to see Agumon, of whom Takato had a figure of in his room. Takato tried to get him to shut up and passed his comment as an in-joke. Hackmon was unwilling to trust them, Guilmon asked who he was, and Hackmon said both his name and that he loved fighting strong guys. Guilmon answered that he loved eating bread at Takato's place, Hackmon found the entire conversation odd. Taichi asked them how they got there, and they explained that Takato took bread to Guilmon after school, and while Guilmon was eating it, a big fuzzy thing appeared, then they found themselves in the Digital Dungeon. A black fog then appeared behind them, which Takato recognized as what they saw. The fog told them to go further in, and upon being asked what it wanted from them, said they had to fight and go further in, or else, then disappeared in a flash of light. Hackmon wanted to fight it. Taichi refused to do as it wanted, but Agumon pointed out they had to keep going further in if they wanted to get out of there, so Hackmon accepted they had no choice but to do as it said, which Taichi agreed with. Takato and Guilmon said they'd go with them, which Taichi found reassuring.

Takato and Dukemon then join the party as guests. Dukemon can't be controlled, has 9999 HP and infinite SP. He can deal multiple hits to all enemies with Royal Saber and Final Elysion, deal damage to one enemy with Royal Slash, or heal the entire party for 2000 HP with Giga Heal +. He can take two actions per turn thanks to his Continuous Action support ability.

Upon reaching Area 2, Guilmon asked Takato why he didn't say anything when he got to meet Taichi and Agumon, namely that he already knew them, but Takato thought that'd just confuse them, that Digimon was an actual franchise in his world. Besides, being in the presence of people he admired was good enough for Takato. Taichi then told him to get going. Takato wondered if his friends at school would believe him if he told them about this, Guilmon pointed out he looked happy, and Takato reminded him to keep this a secret from Taichi.

Once again, the exit portal was in Area 3, with Guilmon seeing it this time. Guilmon happily ran towards it but his path was blocked by the black fog which then took the form of Dukemon, confusing Guilmon as to why there was another him. Takato wondered if it was a fake Guilmon. Hackmon pointed out it was dangerous. Once again, defeating it caused it to disappear. Guilmon pointed out it was a hard fight and Takato that it hurt a lot. Hackmon praised them. Taichi told Takato they'd have to split off, as he had realized he'd be meeting someone new on every level. Takato asked Taichi to shake his hand, to everyone's surprise. Takato was overjoyed to do so, to Taichi's confusion, but he was glad he was happy nonetheless. Taichi, Agumon and Hackmon then left, but not before the former promised they'd find a way out. After separating, Guilmon told Takato he wanted more of his family bread, and Takato said they'd find a way home, no matter what.

The protagonists met once again in Episode 74, "Everyone Unite! The Final Battle". They reunited because they heard about Gankoomon and Hackmon. Kanbara Takuya pointed out a lot happened but it wasn't the time to deal with it and Daimon Masaru apologised to him for attacking him earlier. Kudou Taiki pointed out their first priority was to deal with this. However, a quake suddenly hit the Digital Dungeon, followed by the appearance of two Diablomon and a Keramon. Taichi realized they wouldn't get to the spatial core so easily. Masaru proposed them all to break in at once, Taiki thought they should conserve their energy, Takato proposed to split into pairs but Taichi pointed out they wouldn't make it in time like that. Motomiya Daisuke told Taichi to just go ahead and Takuya recognized him as their leader. Hackmon told Taichi to pick who should go with them. If the player refuses every choice, Taichi won't be able to pick, and Hackmon will hurry him up to do it.

After stopping the spatial core, upon regaining consciousness, Hackmon found himself back in the normal Digital Dungeon, surrounded by the protagonists. He asked them what happened to the spatial control core. Agumon told him everything was fine and the copies were gone. Gankoomon then arrived and praised everyone. The Chosen Children were ready to go back to their own worlds, each with their own thoughts. Gankoomon granted them a reward: to face them, as a Royal Knight. After a harsh fight, the team won, with Hackmon being gladly surprised they did. Gankoomon wondered if that was the power of humans allied with Digimon. Hackmon and Gankoomon agreed they still had a lot of training to do. Taichi asked Gankoomon if they could finally go home. Gankoomon said yes, but added they would lose all memories they got in the Digital Space upon leaving it, since if they kept those memories from a space that existed beyond space-time, it would disturb the order of the Digital Field. Hackmon thought it was a shame since they just got to know each other, but the protagonists accepted it, if not without regrets, with Taiki and Akashi Tagiru feeling they'd meet again. They all then promised to do so, before finally separating.

Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode[edit]

Takato, under his initials, sends Taiga a mail with a challenge for the Colosseum. This is the Colosseum 20th floor Free Battle: "My Guilmon". There, Takato introduces himself and Guilmon and explains he needs to get stronger and wanted Taiga, an excellent Tamer, to show him how to do so. After being defeated, Takato thanks Taiga for fighting them since it helped him grasp something, then asks him to fight him again when he's stronger. This awards Taiga the Takato's Goggles accessory.

Days later, under his full name, Takato sends Taiga another mail, asking him for a battle to help him understand the relationship between a Digimon and its Tamer. This is the 40th floor Free Battle: "Digimon Tamer?". There, Takato asks Taiga what he thinks a Digimon is, rejecting them as mere tools of fighting, then performs a Card Slash with the Matrix Evolution card to evolve Guilmon into Megalo Growmon. Thanks to the fight, Takato figures out that Guilmon is not a tool but his best friend. Guilmon doesn't understand what friends are but thinks it feels the same. Takato then thanks Guilmon and Taiga. This awards Taiga a Megidramon card.

"Digimon Tamer?"

A few days later, Takato sends Taiga another mail, explaining that Guilmon had evolved but he wasn't sure if he could master his newfound power so he wanted to face Taiga to learn to control it properly. To the receptionist Metal Greymon's confusion, their Free Battle: "Takato and Guilmon" was under the name of Dukemon rather than Takato's. Indeed, only Dukemon was in the Colosseum, and he explained that he was born from the fusion of Takato and Guilmon, a process called Matrix Evolution, and he wanted to face a brilliant Tamer like Taiga to make sure he could use that power. After being defeated, Dukemon accepts their defeat, having learned that their power should be used not in anger, but to protect everyone, and Dukemon had given Takato his righteous power to do that. As thanks, Takato sends his evolution data to Taiga's Digivice so he can use it righteously too. This unlocks Dukemon as an evolution for Digimaru.

"Takato and Guilmon"

Takato as Dukemon (X-Antibody) is the 3rd fight of the Heavenly Hall Free Battle: "We'll put you to the test", succeeding Motomiya Daisuke and Imperialdramon: Paladin Mode. After losing, he calls Daimon Masaru to take his place.
