Kotone is the younger sister of Nene in the Digimon Xros Wars manga. In XWM07, Kotone is revealed to also be a General, but has fallen into a deep sleep and that Nene has inquired Dark Knightmon's help to awaken her. Due to she holds the strongest Xros Code, Dark Knightmon plans to make her his new General, controlling her with the help of Shademon In XWM09 it is revealed that Kotone is Nene's only living relative, meaning she replaces Yuu in this continuity.

- At the "Hypnos Meeting 2019", Nakashima Yuuki responded to a fan that if Mervamon had been active in the manga's plot, she might have joined Kotone or Hinomoto Akari, since Nene doesn't join the group halfway through the story, like in the anime.[1]
