Madomon is one of five Digimon created as a reward for making a minimum pledge of ¥300,000 to the Digimon Adventure 20th Anniversary Memorial Story Project crowdfunding campaign on Campfire.[1] An individual who goes by the online handle of "Mado" 「マド」 was one of the backers of the ¥300,000 tier, and Madomon was designed as their partner Digimon by Digimon designer Watanabe Kenji based on their input and wishes. As part of the reward, Bandai later sent Mado finalized key art of Madomon by Watanabe,[2] as well as a one-of-a-kind plush doll of Madomon.
Madomon is modeled on and named after Mado's childhood pet dog, Madeleine 「マドレーヌ」, a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. Details from Madeleine's life that inspired Madomon's design include the royal crown and cape that it wears, as seen in a photograph of Madeleine;[3] and the elephant plush that it carries, which is based on Madeleine's favorite toy.[4] Its long ears take inspiration from Terriermon.[5]
To date, Madomon has never appeared in any official Digimon media.
While none of the following information originates from Bandai and is therefore not to be taken as canon, Mado has shared these details that they personally ascribe to Madomon:
They also provided a Digimon Reference Book-style profile for it:
- A dog-like Beast Type Digimon that is a subspecies of Labramon.
- It thinks of itself as royalty, and always carries around an elephant plush which it treats as its servant.
- Walks are its pastime, but it dislikes cat-type Digimon who appear on its favorite walking route.
- Its Special Move sprays sneeze-inducing body fur all around it (Kushami Bomb).[6]
