Name[edit]
Is there any reason why we should stick with "Neru"? The only official romanization that we have goes with Nell, which is as true to the original kana as Neru is. The franchise is hardly a stranger to unusual romanizations (like Ruli over Ruri) so I see no reason why we should take it as untrue to the Japanese version.
Probably more directly, this also applies to stuff like Kido Jo or Jou or whatever where every official romanization, even in Japanese material, shows Joe. We have one in this manga too with Wakamiya whose only official romanization (again, the translated version) also goes with the far more common Joe. --Blaze Dragon (talk) 17:44, 4 March 2024 (GMT -3)

- I get that but it's still romanizing the original name, not changing it. The Dreamers translation is extremely faithful beyond using existing dub terms. - We didn't change Phelesmon to Feresmon just because Dreamers spelled it that way. Given Neru's surname, she's evidently Japanese. Nell is a Western name. It's a dub name, like Matt for Yamato. I don't understand why this is a difficult concept for people, unless it's just slavishness to Bandai, which has repeated demonstrated that it can't spell properly. Sure, "(k)nell" and "bell" is a pun, but we don't spell Mari's name as Mary just because she and her partner's names are a pun on "rosemary." --TMS (talk) 16:37, 4 March 2024 (EST)

- You're being a slave to the kana here. My (internet) name would not be Bureizu even if I was a Japanese user. Neru, Nell, Nel, all are logical romanizations for this, and it's clear the intended one is Nell. It has a clear wordplay in it with Bell, again, the only official romanization (English translation or not, considering it's entirely faithful to the original beyond already existing dub terms) goes with Nell, I'm not sure what else you need. Or should we change every Digimon's name to their most direct romanizations because they come from Japan? As I said earlier, just because it's a play on words doesn't mean the spelling needs to be a certain way. We don't hyphenate Taichi as Ta-Ichi because that was the pun in V-Tamer. You have to look at this from an in-universe perspective. Presumably this girl has parents who named her. It's much more likely that they used a Japanese name than a foreign one that happens to rhyme with the name of a partner Digimon she didn't have at the time.
