The company introduced the Digimon franchise, marketed through Bandai, one of their major clients. As of April 1, 2019, WiZ Co., Ltd merged with PLEX International design Co., Ltd, a fellow subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings, and now operates under the PLEX brand name.

History[edit]

In June 1997, WiZ introduced the hand-held electronic game series, "Digital Monster", following the worldwide success of the Tamagotchi, which was released the previous year, utilizing original animated characters. In April 1999, they created the animated series "Digital Monster" (with character copyrights) and began airing it on Fuji TV under the name "Digimon Adventure".[1]

Trivia[edit]

In Digimon Savers, when Yggdrasill became “bugged” as a result of being unable to interpret the requests of the Digimon. It began to call itself the "WIZ9000 Computer" (WIZ9000型コンピューター, WIZ9000-gata Konpyūtā), a reference to both the company and sentient computer HAL 9000 from Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series.
