Name

I've always wondered why this wiki calls the game "Digimon Encounters". On Monmon Memo the game is called "Digimon Encounter" (デジモン エンカウンター). Is there any source for the pluralized name? ShikaSS (talk) 15:53, 16 June 2026 (CDT)

the japanese translation doesn't really matter for a chinese game. chinese wikipedia calls it digimon encounters, as did every news source when it came out and during its time out [1] [2]. this chinese albumn 在世界尽头相遇 is officially romanised in english as "Encounters at the End of the World", as seen here. this art event 相遇之旅, is officially romanized as Journey of Encounters. it is compltely reasonable to translate 相遇 as "encounters". the chiense digimon wiki uses the romanisation too [3] as does this other chinese digimon wiki go to english romanisation list, then scroll to B where blucomon is and you see "Mobile Digimon Encounters" Muur (talk) 00:49, 17 June 2026 (CDT)

@Muur, I saw all the Digimon sources you provided are unofficial sources, do you happen to have any official/primary source that uses "Encounters"? I think ShikaSS's comment is worth considering because Monmon Memo is an official Bandai source, it could also be used as a citation. 相遇 in Mandarin does not differentiate between singular or plural so it can be either, probably the news sources just chose plural to go with, but "Encounter" is also an accurate translation of 相遇. I feel "Digimon Encounter" is still recognisable as the same game as what we've been calling "Digimon Encounters", and I don't think the game is that commonly talked about? 数码宝贝 相遇 can be translated as Digimon Encounter or Digimon Encounters, since you need to specify plurality in English the news sources just picked Encounters at that time and it stuck, but since an official source subsequently specified "Encounter" I personally agree to change to Encounter. (Since I was asked to look at this.) I can't say I have a strong feeling either way. We do as of now apparently only have an official source for the singular. Wouldn't be the first time a game is commonly but incorrectly named in that way, since a lot of fans think Digimon Crusader is Digimon Crusaders. About what Garmmon said, Encounter(s) doesn't seem to be commonly discussed; I certainly wouldn't know anything about it if I wasn't checking Wikimon edits all the time. Has anyone checked the official Chinese site to see if there's an English romanization provided there? If no one is able to find one, then I won't object to changing the name and leaving a redirect to Encounters. On my end at least I couldn't find any official source for Encounters, I tried checking wayback for the official site and didn't find any romanisation on the page or page source. --Garmmon (talk) 09:56, 29 June 2026 (CDT)

From even my time playing the game, I always saw it written in chinese, differing only in the inclusion of the colon (which I noticed Garmmon recently took into account on the page). As for Japanese materials, when referring to the game by name instead of "chinese app", they always use "Encounter", even as recently as Digimon Con 2026. ShikaSS (talk) 11:41, 2 July 2026 (CDT)
