Digital Monster Ver. 2 Original Monster Contest
The Digital Monster Ver. 2 Original Monster Contest (デジモンVer.2発売決定記念 オレモン大募集, Dejimon Ver. 2 Hatsubai Kettei Kinen Ore-Mon Dai Boshū, lit. "Commemoration of the Decision to Release Digimon Ver. 2: Great Ore-Mon Recruitment") was a Digimon design contest jointly held by V Jump and Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1997 to commemorate the upcoming release of the Digital Monster Ver. 2. Readers were invited to create and submit illustrations of original monsters, with the possibility of the selected designs being included in the device.
Contest[edit]
Entrants were instructed to draw their original monster on the front of a postcard and provide their address, name, age, occupation—or school year in the case of students—and telephone number on the reverse. Entries had to be postmarked by October 20, 1997. The results were scheduled to be announced in the February issue released on December 22.
The creator of the most outstanding entry would receive two Digital Monster Ver. 2 devices and a commemorative plaque featuring their monster illustration. An additional 500 entrants whose submissions were considered particularly good would each receive two Digital Monster Ver. 2 devices through a lottery, amounting to a total of 1,000 devices.
Selected Digimon[edit]
Six Digimon originating from submissions to the contest were selected for inclusion in the Digital Monster Ver. 2:
A large number of designs were submitted, including multiple entries representing the same Digimon. Due to the limited amount of space available in the magazines, V Jump and Weekly Shōnen Jump each published only one submission for each selected Digimon.[N 1]
Notes[edit]
- ↑ According to Watanabe Kenji, the editorial team wanted to publish all of the selected illustrations, but this was not possible due to the limited amount of space available in the magazines.
