Name's Ruki Makino, and I am but a simple himejoshi who also translates things on occasion.
Savers is my favorite season, followed closely by Ghost Game, V-Tamer, Hunters, and Appmon in that order.
Keyword Explainer Text Masterpost (WIP)[edit]
For easier standardization, I'm dropping all the explainer text in one place.
Double fullwidth angle brackets for parameter delimiting: --> 《》
Absorb Evolution -N/吸収進化-N[edit]
Introduced in: BT-02
Deprecated in: BT-10
Absorb Evolution was a parametrized keyword. It was referred to as Digisorption in the English localization. It took an unsigned integer as a parameter.
Due to the sheer bullshit blazing enabled by the effect's lack of restriction (allowing you to pay the cost by resting the evolving body), particularly [BT2-047 Algomon]'s ability to evolve for literally free, the keyword fell out of use, and all suspension-based cost reduction since has had additional stipulations applied.
- EN: When one of your Digimon would evolve into this card in the hand, by resting 1 of your Digimon, reduce the cost by N
Alliance/連携[edit]
Introduced in: EX-04
Alliance is a keyword. It has two functionally-identical explainer texts on either side of a card text formatting update.
- Original text (EX4) outside of EX4, no explainer text was ever used for the entire rest of block 4
- Revised text (BT21-present)
- EN: When this Digimon attacks, by resting 1 of your other Digimon, this Digimon gains {{dcghl|e=Security Attack +1}} and adds the rested Digimon's DP for the attack
Introduced in: BT-21
AppGattai is a special evolution type.

Barrier/防壁[edit]
Introduced in: BT-13
Barrier is a keyword.
- EN: When this Digimon would be destroyed in battle, by trashing the top card of your security, it isn't destroyed
Introduced in: BT-14
Blast Evolution is a keyword. It always appears with the area tag Hand and the timing tag Counter, so rather than providing the definition by itself, I'll post the entire boilerplate.
|e2={{dcghl|tr=Hand}} {{dcghl|t=Counter}} {{dcghl|e=Blast Evolution}} (Your Digimon may evolve into this card without paying the cost)
Introduced in: EX-06
Blast Jogress is a parametrized keyword. It takes two exact names as parameters. Like Blast Evolution, it always appears with the area tag Hand and the timing tag Counter, so like with Blast Evolution, I'll post the entire boilerplate instead of just the definition.
|e2={{dcghl|tr=Hand}} {{dcghl|t=Counter}} {{dcghl|e=Blast Jogress ([X] + [Y])}} (1 of your specified Digimon and 1 of the specified card in the hand may jogress into this card)

- EN: When one of your opponent's Digimon attacks, by resting this Digimon, change the attack target to this Digimon
- Second revision (BT14-present) with the introduction of Counter effects, blocking was reworked to be no longer an effect and to only be able to be performed by one Digimon
- EN: This Digimon can block at the block timing
Collision/衝突[edit]
Introduced in: BT-16
Collision is a keyword.

- EN: When this Digimon attacks, you may change the attack target to 1 of your opponent's active Digimon with the highest DP
Introduced in: BT-19
Decode is a parametrized keyword. It takes a descriptor for a single card as a parameter; any of the Digimon's evolution bases matching this descriptor will be a valid target to be played by the effect. (To play multiple cards, it is required to have multiple instances of Decode, which will activate one at a time.)
- EN: When this Digimon would leave the battle area outside of battle, you may play 1 %DESCRIPTOR% Digimon card from this Digimon's evolution bases without paying the cost
Decoy/デコイ[edit]
Introduced in: BT-06
Deprecated in: BT-20
Decoy was a parametrized keyword. It takes a descriptor for a single card as a parameter; 1 instance of Decoy will protect against the deletion of 1 card matching this descriptor. As the power level of the game accelerated, this keyword became too underpowered for current card design, and a powercrept version called Guard was created.
- Original text
- EN: When one of your other %DESCRIPTOR% Digimon would be destroyed by an opponent's effect, by destroying this Digimon, 1 of those %DESCRIPTOR% Digimon isn't destroyed
Introduced in: BT-06
Delay is a keyword.

- Current text (BT13-present)
- EN: By trashing this card on a turn after it was placed, activate the effect
N[edit]
Introduced in: BT-02
Deprecated in: BT-07
Digiburst was a parametrized keyword. It took an unsigned integer or an "up to N" object as a parameter.
It is unclear why this keyword was deprecated, but all future decks that trash their own evolution bases do so manually without a keyword, and effects that trigger when cards are trashed from sources take the form "When an effect trashes this card from the evolution bases of a Digimon with the X trait" instead.
- EN: By trashing N of this Digimon's evolution bases, activate the following effect
Introduced in: BT-10
DigiXros is a parametrized rule. It takes an unsigned integer as a parameter, as well as a descriptor for a set of cards of undefined size.
- EN: When this card would be played, you may place cards from your hand/battle area under this card. For each such card, reduce the play cost
Draw N/Nドロー[edit]
Introduced in: BT-01
Draw is a parametrized keyword. It takes an unsigned integer as a parameter. Notably, the parameter is rendered before the keyword name in Japanese.
It's kind of wild that this ever needed an explicit definition to begin with. They completely stopped writing the reminder text at some point.
- EN: Draw N cards from your deck
Introduced in: BT-20
Execute is a keyword.
- EN: This Digimon may attack at the end of your turn. At the end of that attack, destroy this Digimon. You can also attack your opponent's active Digimon with this effect
Guard/守護[edit]
Introduced in: EX-12
Guard is a keyword. It is a stronger version of the deprecated keyword Decoy; one instance of Guard can protect all targets of a multi-target removal effect, and can protect from removal types other than deletion.
- EN: When one of your other Digimon would leave the battle area by your opponent's effects, by deleting this Digimon, it doesn't leave
Heaven Ascent/天昇[edit]
Introduced in: BT-25
Heaven Ascent is a keyword. It is referred to in the English localization as Ascension. Like the other keyword introduced in this set, Heaven Ascent is not a new effect altogether but rather a named macro for a common type of boilerplate text; however, there is a slightly different nuance with the new keyword, as much like Indomitable, it's not technically a When Destroyed timing.
- EN: When this Digimon is destroyed, you may place this card on top of security
Introduced in: BT-01
Jamming is a keyword. It has two reminder texts which are completely interchangeable and look the same in translation.
- EN: This Digimon isn't destroyed in battles with security Digimon

Introduced in: BT-08
Jogress is a special evolution type.
- EN: Stack the 2 specified Digimon and evolve active
N[edit]
Introduced in: BT-10
Material Save is a parametrized keyword. It takes an unsigned integer as a parameter.
- EN: When this Digimon would be destroyed, you may place N cards specified on this Digimon's DigiXros requirements from this Digimon's evolution bases under 1 of your Tamers
Introduced in: BT-14
Overflow is a parametrized rule. It takes a single parameter, which is always equal to the level of the card minus 2.
- Original text (BT14-BT18)
- EN: As this card is sent from the battle area or under your cards to another place, lose N memory
- Current text (EX8-present) rules were altered such that the top card in raising is no longer a safe area
- EN: As this card is sent from the Area or under your cards to another place, lose N memory

- EN: When this Digimon attacks and destroys an opponent's Digimon, it checks security before the attack ends
- Second revision (BT25-present) with the introduction of direct battle effects, Pierce was reworked to accommodate surrounding edge cases
- EN: When this Digimon destroys an opponent's Digimon in battle during an attack, it checks security before the attack ends
Reboot/再起動[edit]
Introduced in: BT-02
Reboot is a keyword.
- Original text (BT2-BT13)
- EN: Turn this Digimon active in your opponent's active phase
- Revised text (BT14-present)
- EN: This Digimon turns active in the opponent's active phase
Introduced in: BT-01
Recovery is a parametrized keyword.
The keyword was originally formatted as in the header, with the (Deck) parenthetical, but the only parameter is an unsigned integer. I assume they wrote it like this because they figured they might do Recovery (Trash) or introduce an extra deck to recover from or something, but then they never did, and since the only unordered sets in the game are the deck and security, starting with BT-25 the keyword is now written without the (Deck) as just Recovery +1.
- Original text (BT1-EX2):
- EN: Place N cards from the top of your deck on top of security
- Current text (BT9-present):
- EN: Place the top N cards of your deck on top of security

Retaliation is a keyword.

- EN: If this Digimon is the only Digimon destroyed in a battle, the opponent's Digimon that battled it is also destroyed
Revert N/退化N[edit]
Introduced in: BT-02
Revert is a parametrized keyword. It is referred to as De-Digivolve in the English localization. It takes an unsigned integer as a parameter.
- Original text (BT2-???)
- EN: Trash up to N cards from the top of one of your opponent's Digimon. This effect can't trash through a Digimon with no evolution bases or a level 3 Digimon

Introduced in: BT-04
Rush is a keyword.

- EN: When this Digimon would be destroyed other than by your effects, by destroying 1 of your other Digimon, it isn't destroyed
Security Attack ±N/Sアタック±N[edit]
Introduced in: BT-01
Security Attack is a parametrized keyword. It takes a signed integer as a parameter.
- Original text (BT1-EX2):
- EN: The number of security cards this Digimon checks increases/decreases by N
- First revision (BT9-present):
- EN: This Digimon's number of checks increases/decreases by N
Introduced in: EX-09
Training is a keyword.
- EN: During your main phase, by resting this Digimon, place 1 card from the top of your deck face down as this Digimon's bottom evolution base. This effect can also activate in the raising area
Introduced in: BT-25
Use Requirements is a parametrized keyword. It takes a trait/name/text descriptor as its argument. Like the other keyword introduced in this set, Use Requirements is not a new effect altogether but rather a named macro for a common type of boilerplate text; in this case, however, there is no nuance. It's just the same effect that's been in common use since BT-21.
- EN: You may ignore color requirements using the specified cards
Non-Keyworded Card Text Boilerplate[edit]
Disable [Security] effects: Somehow, this effect has never changed. BT1 WarGreymon and BT20 Hisyaryumon are worded the exact same way.
|e2={{dcghl|t=Your Turn}} This Digimon doesn't activate {{dcghl|t=Security}} effects on option cards it checks.
Memory setter:
|e1={{dcghl|t=Beginning of Your Turn}} If you have 2 or less memory, it becomes 3.
Original-style hybrid effect: I'm unsure if this has been retconned into an evo bubble yet the same way that "treated as having X in its name" was retconned into rules text. It feels like something they would have done by now but I haven't heard of it happening yet, so until I hear conclusively otherwise I'll continue to operate under old rulings where Volcanicdramon prevents classic hybrids but not new hybrids.
|e1=You may evolve one of your COLOR Tamers into this card in the hand as if it were a COLOR level N Digimon.
Play from security:
Pre-BT25:
|e2={{dcghl|t=Security}} At the end of the battle, play this card without paying the cost.
Post-BT25:
|e2={{dcghl|t=Security}} At the end of the battle, play this card without paying the cost.
Security trash on pierce:
|eb1={{dcghl|t=Both Players' Turn}} {{dcghl|trn=Once per Turn}} When this Digimon destroys an opponent's Digimon in battle, trash the top card of your opponent's security.
Tamer [Security] effect:
Pre-BT25:
|se1={{dcghl|t=Security}} Play this card without paying the cost.
Post-BT25:
|se1={{dcghl|t=Security}} Play this card without paying the cost.
