Overdrive Forms[edit]
Since there's no translation of the manga available, I obviously haven't read it, but is there any particular reason why these Overdrive forms should have their own pages? I thought the understanding was that to be its own species an Appmon required a chip, which is why we don't have separate pages for the Virus and App Link variants. These Overdrive forms, with the one physical change common to all of them, seem to be something similar. --TMS (talk) 13:12, 24 June 2023 (EST)
- If I recall it right, at the time it was decided that AppLinks and Virus counterparts were not going to count as their own subspecies because they are not really unique, since essentially they are incomplete evolutions or side forms that can apply to any other Appmon. I have been reading the manga myself with the help of a translation tool, in the case of these Overdrive forms, there are some hints here and there that led me to think they represent the full concept of further evolution and hence should be differentiated from the rest:
- 1. Unlike the regular Applinks, in which the two Appmon keep their consciousness and don't really merge with each other data-wise a la App Gattai, in these cases the data and energy of Minerva fully ends up being an integrated part of the new enhanced Appmon, kinda like a DigiXros of sorts.
- 2. There has been other cases of Overdrive along the anime (episode Globemon vs Charismon, Kami Appmon vs Leviathan, etc.) even in the manga the 5 Kiwami Appmon perform an Overdrive process with the life energy of the 5 main Minerva Appli Drivers during the second half of the manga, showing up with a default bright aura of power, but in this particular case that we are reviewing, this feels kinda different and something that can only be performed during these particular circumstances, hence they are granted to be more unique than the AppLink and Virus scenarios.
- 3. The way it is expressed in the manga, it feels like the main point overall of this continuity and the climax of the storyline, pretty symbolic actually, Minerva merging with the higher-level Budy Appmon of the 5 Appli Drivers that she chose, as a response for Leviathan merging with Deusmon, the higher form of the sixth Appli Driver chose by Leviathan herself.--Shadow Shinji (talk) 04:01, 25 June 2023 (CDT)
- My understanding was that a single Appmon species could have multiple App Chips in the Appmon Chip Encyclopedia, including ones that depicted them AppLinked to another Appmon or under the influence of the L-Virus, that all link to the same species page so it was more conducive to only look at the species pages themselves with the exception of Dantemon because he simply couldn’t have his own page due to how the ACE is formatted.
- I get the sneaking suspicion that if these and Deusmon were to get App Chips in the ACE, the Chips would’ve linked to the base species pages rather than have their own species pages as how all other variant App Chips are treated.
- We simply cannot assume that they’d be treated as their own species based on what is, at best, conjecture when it had already been established that Appmon have a much more stringent set of standards for what constitutes an actual species compared to Digimon. - You have a very good point Chimera.--Shadow Shinji (talk) 18:13, 25 June 2023 (CDT)
- So Akamine Naoki has confimed that the power of these forms is similar to AppGattai, but it's a special power that isn't AppGattai, so I guess it's fine to leave them in their respective God Appmon pages as it is now. It's quite interesting nonetheless, how this concept wasn't explored neither in the anime or 3DS series continuities, considering it's the highest level an Appmon can achieve allegedly. --Shadow Shinji (talk) 17:58, 3 September 2023 (CDT)
