Talk:Digimental of Sincerity
Faith, while technically a correct translation, no longer carries the intended connotation in Modern English (due to a lot of anti-religious people who don't use dictionaries). The intended meaning is supposed to be something like Honesty (which has precedent as a dub translation as well), or faithfulness, meaning that Jou can be relied upon to keep his promises, to do what he says, etc.KrytenKoro06 22:53, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure why this is even named "Digimental of Faith" when its official Bandai name is "Digimental of Sincerity". --Ainz 00:19, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
This has been discussed thoroughly back before Wikimon exploded and everything was lost. The exact translation of the name of Jou's crest is "to be faithful and sincere". Also, I haven't heard anyone complain about any possible religious connotations of the name of his crest, and it's ridiculous to change its name simply based on some people (who I really doubt are a bunch of digimon geeks) disliking the word itself.
Besides, this page (and all other "item" pages) should probably be completely reformatted at some point later. Deal with it then. --devkyu 04:04, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I watched the episode again, and it's pretty clear that "Honesty" is the intended meaning - Iori feels unworthy of the Digimental because he lied. I've also had someone edit on the Digimon wiki that the official subs for 02 translate it as "Honesty".
- Also, devkyu, I was talking about the word Faith, not the crest.KrytenKoro06 09:07, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
We definitely need to mention that both "Digimental of Sincerity" and "Digimental of Honesty" are both official terms, but for general use, which one should we use? Bandai's "Digimental of Sincerity", or the official subs "Digimental of Honesty"? --Ainz 14:46, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Make it "Digimental of Being Honestly Faithful and Sincere". That or "Digimental of Super Special Awesome" will also suffice. --devkyu 20:42, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- I thought it was Faith personally, as in, having faith someone could do something, *cough*digiegg-of-reliability-because-i-watched-the-dub*cough* --Lightlowemon 09:24, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
