Talk:Greymon-species

From Wikimon

Quick question about the placement of Digimon here, but is there a reason GreyKnightsmon is a full member and not in the related section? MetalGreymon is mentioned in the profile for GreyKnightsmon, I know, but that's the same case for Omegamon (WarGreymon) and Agumon X (Greymon).

Seperate question, but should GreyWars be included in the related section as well? It's not a Digimon, and it's not a Greymon, but it's certainly related, right? GaruruMetal would be a similar case for the Garurumon-species page.

One more, but should Ogremon and Titamon be included as well (since they mention SkullGreymon)?

Would love to get other perspectives on this. --NightwingFan (talk) 10:37, 26 September 2024 (CDT)

Greymon X not a member?[edit]

Shouldn't Greymon X be classified as a member and not simply related? The RB profile is exactly the same as the basic Greymon's, and even the x-antibody section straight up refers to it as just Greymon. Same goes with Greymon O and Blue. I understand that we want to separate the members from the related/in-name-only species, I was there during the discussion, but I think that these cases are so straight forward with what they are that it should be out of the question. --ImaginAlphamon (talk) 22:27, 15 July 2026 (CDT)

I agree with your logic, but in the case of the Greymon-species, the original Greymon itself is only included implicitly and Greymon's own profile doesn’t mention the Greymon-species. The reason War Greymon (X-Antibody) is included for example is precisely what you’re referring to though, as the mention of the Greymon-species is originally from War Greymon's profile.
I'm open to adding additional members to these species groupings myself, but the direction we were given is to only include Digimon with a source to back that up. If the mods asked, I actually would remove Greymon itself from this page for example as there is no actual source clarifying it as a member of the Greymon-species, it's simply only implied by other Reference Book entries. I think this is a conversation worth having though, so thanks for bringing it up!NightwingFan (talk) 22:58, 15 July 2026 (CDT)
Also, what about the mode changes? Where do they fall in this whole ordeal? Mode changes don't imply automatically a change of species as far as I'm aware of. At worst, they only change/add types, don't they? Like Gaioumon for instance, even the profile outright states that itto mode is still Gaioumon through and through, unlike Metalgreymon which refers to it as an evolution of Greymon instead of "a Greymon". If there has to be a discussion about the topic again, I think we should make an exception and treat modes the same as the base mons unless the contrary is explicitly stated, at least for now. It's just common sense. BTW, sorry if I come off as heated up, it's just that some of these classifications feel too arbitrary even with sources --ImaginAlphamon (talk) 18:15, 16 July 2026 (CDT)
We should probably ask RavelMonte if he can confirm the source, but I believe one of the DOT guides talks about how the parts of a Digimon's name relate to what species it is. That could be used to support including all types of X-Greymon (X) X Mode, which is the strongly implied meaning of such mentions (for example, MetalGarurumon's profile should not be read to imply that it's saying MetalGarurumon is a type of Adult-level Garurumon, or that AncientGreymon only gave its power to a "Dragon Digimon Adult Greymon" which doesn't yet exist).KrytenKoro06 (talk) 10:33, 7 August 2026 (CDT).KrytenKoro06 (talk) 10:33, 7 August 2026 (CDT)
That would be great if he did have that kind of info. As it stands, I was directed to keep things to just information with a source, but it would certainly make things easier if we could just throw everything in lol. -NightwingFan (talk) 10:42, 7 August 2026 (CDT)
Well, that was quick. Ravel Monte just got back to me, which is pretty nice of him, although his answer is that he doesn't think he's come across any such source clarifying the above.
In other words, we're back where we started. This is probably best saved for the Community Portal discussion, but there will need to be a discussion on whether sub-species or variants, Mode Changes, X-Antibody forms, etc. count towards these "Species Groups" without any identifiable source. At least in the case of the Agumon-species page, nearly all of the above do via the Digimon Profile article (Mode Changes only excluded by circumstance, as Agumon: Burst Mode isn't recognized by the Reference Book or Digimon Web in general). The difference is only in that it's a direct source from the official Digimon website vs. fan interpolation. -NightwingFan (talk) 11:42, 7 August 2026 (CDT)
