Personality[edit]

He is a stoic, dedicated warrior who is boundlessly loyal to his partner. He is calm and collected, usually maintaining an air of dignity both on and off the battlefield. Like Thoma, Gaomon prefers a strategical approach to most things rather than to rush in headfirst. He follows Thoma's orders without question, responding to every command with a cry of "Yes, Master!" (イエス・マスター! Iesu Masutaa!) (Dub: "Sir, yes sir!"). Unlike Agumon, Gaomon will not often act on his own in a battle, but rather wait for his partner to direct him. It may seem like a blind devotion at first, but Gaomon has revealed that it is his unwavering trust and faith in his master that drives him to be so obedient, rather than mindless servitude. The two of them share a bond so deep that Gaomon is often able to understand what Thoma is thinking and planning, and will act without needing to be told. Though he never directly says it, Thoma is more precious than anything to Gaomon. Gaomon feels that his strong devotion will help to ease some of Thoma's pain, letting him know that he is never, ever alone.

Appearances[edit]

Anime[edit]

Digimon Savers[edit]

Gaomon first appeared in episode three of Digimon Savers, in which he evolved to Gaogamon to battle a swarm of Petit Meramon. In Digimon Savers - Episode 15, he evolved to his perfect form, Mach Gaogamon, in order to defeat Metal Phantomon. Very little character development was given to Gaomon during the course of the series, and virtually no explanation of his past was given. Gaomon is the first partner Digimon to belong to a main character in which the viewer is not shown how Digimon and partner met.

Much in the same manner as Thoma, Gaomon initially came across as cold and distant. His personality offended Agumon, and the two of them clashed a bit. As time passed, however, Gaomon warmed to his digimon companions as Thoma warmed to his human ones. He showed a bit of a fondness and a kinship for Agumon, respecting him as a fellow fighter despite their differences. Gaomon also displayed that he was capable of valiantly holding his own in the absence of his master, and thus being unable to evolve.

Digimon Story[edit]

King Etemon surrounded by the DATS members

The Player goes to Data Forest to find Gaomon, who had disappeared after leaving for an investigation. While he's close to the Gate, he can't return because he lost the address to Digi-Central, so the Player takes him back. Once reunited with Thoma H. Norstein, Gaomon apologises and Thoma thanks the Player for their help, giving them the autograph of both of them they were looking for. They then leave to report to the Tamer Union and return to the Real World.

In a later Onegai Quest, in Steamy Jungle, after King Etemon threatens to get rid of the Player, Daimon Masaru and Agumon appear, both of them having been in pursue of King Etemon for a while. Masaru has Agumon evolve into Geo Greymon, but his attacks are too weak to affect King Etemon. Thoma and Fujieda Yoshino then arrive, alongside their Perfect-level Partner Digimon, Mach Gaogamon and Lilamon, cornering King Etemon. King Etemon says he'll evolve and beat them all, but no one buys his bluff and then he asks if they won't let him go, before finally surrendering.
