Talk:Reference Book translation confusion

From Wikimon

Hi there! I'm completely new to this level of wiki editing, but I've been bugged by the lack of translations for the DRM profiles of Armor-level and B/H spirit Digimon. I'm pretty confident in the accuracy of most of them, such that I think any edits to them can be made after they're uploaded (If you guys want me to post examples here first, just say so). However, I have been completely baffled by a couple of sentences on Opossummon's profile.

the first one is: 乾燥した砂地を好み、普段は砂に潜りバルーンだけを地上に出している。 which google is giving me as being "If you like the sand and dry, you are out on the ground the only balloon dive sand usually.", and I can't creatively interpret this so that it fits with the rest of the information given.

The second one is: 対戦時にはフワフワと飛ばし敵の頭上で破裂させる恐ろしい技である。 and from that I'm getting "bursting overhead of enemy skip and fluffy to play against.". I'm pretty sure that google has gotten that one completely backwards, but I'm not sure how to turn it into something sensible in english. Any help with these would be immensely appreciated!

I also profusely apologize for my noobishness if this is the wrong place to post these sorts of requests! -SCDigi 20:26, 22 April 2013 (CDT)

I guess you can start by signing your posts by using the 4 tildes (~) at the end of your post. Too bad I don't know how to do the "post previously unsigned by blahblah" function that I've seen before.
The first one seems to be something along the lines of: "It likes dry sandy lands, and usually dives under the sand with only the balloon sticking out." The second one seems to be something along the liens of: "In battle, it will use a terrifying technique which (float and fly) overhead of the enemy and explode." Hope these helps as you change my English into better sensible English.

There, signed my posts. And thanks for the new interpretations!

Doing an interpretation of google translate results really doesn't provide usable results, in my opinion.KrytenKoro06 22:05, 22 April 2013 (CDT)

  • It's fond of dry, sandy soil, and usually hides under the sand with only its balloons showing above

ground.

  • When it fights, it has a terrifying technique in which it floats lightly overhead the opponent and detonates them.
Not all of us are willing or able to do it the hard way, sir. Still, I appreciate the second opinion!
On another note entirely, would anyone be able to tell me if potholing is possible on here (e.g. using just the word "Dinosaur" to link to the "Dinosaur Type" category page)? All I can recall seeing are straight links to everything.

You can use the Type template (as seen in the Type article). --Grandy02 12:35, 23 April 2013 (CDT)

English profiles for Allomon, Archelomon, Pucchiemon, Tocanmon and Opossummon have been added now, ready for surgery by the more experienced fellows here (Allomon's already been gotten at). SCDigi 13:15, 23 April 2013 (CDT)

"Hard way" nothing. If you're trying to rearrange a machine translation without understanding of Japanese grammar, then nine times out of ten what you "produce" is completely opposite its intended meaning. If you haven't gone to med school, don't try to perform surgery.KrytenKoro06 00:14, 28 April 2013 (CDT)
