Personality[edit]

Leomon is strong, loyal, brave, and steadfast, even risking himself to appeal to Beelzebumon's conscience with his own life.

Leomon told Juri that everyone has their own destiny prior to his death. Despite what Juri assumed (which led to her becoming a potent power source for the D-Reaper), Leomon is not a fatalist who foresaw his death, but believed that everyone can break free of their predetermined fate and become their own man.

Digimon Tamers[edit]

When he first appeared in the real world, Leomon was a loner. He kept to himself and did not want much contact with humans or other Digimon. Katou Juri meets him and because of attraction and desire for a partner of her own, decides that they are "destined" for each other. Leomon reacts by running away, but when Juri is attacked, Leomon defends her. Leomon would later become Juri's partner.

In the Digital World, Leomon grows to become extremely protective of Juri, and tells her that "everyone has their own destiny". In a major turning point in the story, while fighting Beelzebumon, he stands up to him trying to appeal to his goodwill, but gets killed while doing so. This caused Juri to become saddened with shock and Takato briefly going insane, causing Guilmon to Dark Evolve into Megidramon until Takato managed to quell his emotions.

Leomon's death had a negative impact for the rest of the show, as Leomon's death and his remarks about "destiny" reminded Juri of her deceased mother, making her believe that she is destined to lose everything she loved or cared about. This caused her post-traumatic stress disorder to kick off in earnest and she became despondent, eventually becoming easy prey to the D-Reaper. who based all of its cynical views against humanity on her depressed and grief-ridden state and turned itself into an insane, nihilistic killing machine bent on wiping out all life under the belief that they were pitiful and do not deserve to exist.

Later on, during the fight against the D-Reaper, Beelzebumon calls down Leomon’s spirit and uses his Juouken to temporarily break the shield holding Juri and Culumon captive. However, his actions brought Juri to an even more despondent state, and the D-Reaper took the opportunity to increase its defenses instead and promptly take Beelzebumon off from the battle.
