Profile
Well, I don't know if we're Digimon, but I know we're Scubamon. We have big flippers for swimming deep in the ocean.

Edits[edit]

English[edit]

  • The dub removes a scene at the very beginning of a dark silhouette in the middle of the ocean.
  • Almost all of the silent moments in this episode are removed and filled with dialogue, most notably Hikari’s added inner monologue.
  • Most scenes of Hikari in the hallway have additional dialogue from the school principal speaking over the PA system.
  • The fake Hangyomon are referred to as “Scubamon” in the dub, even though all other English materials refer to them as “Divermon”.
  • All references to deities are removed in the dub.
  • The dub removes all mentions of the dark creatures wanting to mate with Hikari.
  • The dub adds a mention of the dark creatures wanting to return for Hikari so that she may help them stop Dagomon. In the Japanese version, they simply back off when she tells them she isn’t interested.

Notes and References[edit]

  • The original title is a pun on the alternative translation of H. P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu (クトゥルフの呼び声 Kuturufu no Yobigoe)

  • In the opening title, a column of DigiCode appears displaying the following:

This translates to "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" (フングルイ ムグルウナフ クトゥルウ ルルイエ ウガフナグル フタグン), an occult phrase originating from The Call of Cthulhu which means "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming". Later, when Hikari is alone, she walks past a sign on a fence that reads Test3.pngTest4a.pngDcsu w.pngDcma2.pngDcu w.pngDcsu w.png - "Innsmouth" (インスマウス), a fictional town in Cthulhu Mythos.

  • The forms of "Hangyomon" are a reference to the Deep Ones, fictional creatures in Cthulhu Mythos. In relation to their affinity for human interbreeding, they attempt to capture Hikari in order for her to mate with Dagomon.
